PhD Student on “Logistics Optimization: A Human-Centric Approach” (d/f/m)
Are you looking for a PhD in industry in collaboration with a university? Would you like to discover how combinatorial optimization and human centric decision making applies to industrial systems? Then apply now! We look forward to you joining us as a PhD student (d/f/m) at Airbus Central R&T (35 hours/week, flexi-time).
Location: Hamburg
Start: as soon as possible
Duration: 36 months
This PhD proposal aims to redefine industrial logistics optimization by focusing on human factors and the specific requirements of industrial architects, moving beyond traditional cost-centric Key Performance Indicators..
Unlike conventional optimization, industrial architects might perceive "optimal" differently, where alongside quantitative metrics, additional requirements such as resilience/ robustness, operational flow, adaptability, and safety, play a central role.
The human factors-driven perspective is central, recognizing humans not just as operators but as integral to system design and performance. This addresses a significant research gap in systematically integrating human-related factors into logistics optimization models.
You will develop a multi-objective optimization model that balances traditional KPIs with quantified human factors. This will lead to a framework for designing industrial logistics systems that are not only efficient but also human-centric, resilient, and sustainable, providing valuable guidance for future industrial environments.
Your location
You will be working at the largest production site for civil aircraft situated in Hamburg. Its location on the southern banks of the river Elbe includes the option to commute by ferry. Experience the special flair of Hamburg in your spare time where vibrant cosmopolitan culture meets nautic legacy.
