Job Title: NERC O&P Compliance Standards Specialist

The AES team is looking for an innovative and motivated individual to participate in the NERC compliance efforts for AES’s rapidly growing Transmission function as well as its renewable energy portfolio. This position provides the opportunity to support one of the largest Transmission and renewable energy portfolios in the U.S. while playing a pivotal role in ensuring that AES builds, operates and maintains the portfolio to standards that exceed industry best practices.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and can tackle multidisciplinary challenges in coordination with various AES teams and third parties. This role will support the growth of the AES NERC Compliance team as the renewable portfolio continues to expand.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Compliance Business Partner for AES Operations & Planning (O&P) Compliance.
  • Serve as the technical authority within the O&P group, ensuring timely implementation of O&P NERC Reliability Standards Requirements by AES.
  • Support the execution of internal controls through conducting risk assessments and incorporating lessons learned.
  • Monitor Standards drafting teams and advise SMEs regarding updates or revisions to NERC Compliance Standards.
  • Assist with audit preparations, self-certifications, spot-checks, internal compliance reviews, self-reports, mitigation strategies, RSAWs, and supporting documentation.
  • Carry out annual reviews of processes and procedures, integrating updates into current O&P practices.
  • Analyze gaps arising from new Standards and develop processes that uphold compliance, reliability, and security of AES assets.
  • Review and verify evidence demonstrating compliance with relevant NERC Standards, offering guidance to Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) when needed.
  • Engage in industry forums and outreach initiatives.
  • Provide internal oversight into new projects, ensuring identification of applicable NERC Standards.

Desired Skills and Expertise:

  • Four Year bachelor’s in engineering degree or equivalent Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of related work experience
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Strong verbal and writing skills, technical and non-technical
  • Experience with Protection Systems; Facility Ratings, SCADA Systems, Transmission Planning etc.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter willing to take on new challenges
  • Prior NERC O&P and utilities compliance experience including compliance monitoring, training, and audit support
  • Exceptional attention to detail with commitment to fostering a culture of compliance.
