The Opportunity

This position works out of our Alajuela, Coyol location in the Electrophysiology business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

The Purchasing Manager will be responsible of manage all aspects of purchasing, supplier-commercial relations, inventory for the site. Design and execute strategies to meet short and long-term supply issues related to raw materials as well as purchasing activities for indirect components and services. Manage Purchasing Price Variances (PPV). This position works closely with partners within supply chain, operations and commodity managers to ensure supply of purchased components. Participates and leads cost savings initiatives through cross-functional team engagement. Assigns work based on priorities necessary to support Raw Materials Supply, inventory management, in-bound freight and PPV targets. Expediently initiates investigations of problems; exercises judgment in planning and organizing work; monitors performance and reports status. Uses best business practices to ensure success in areas of responsibility. Ensures employee compliance with Abbott policies and practices.

What You’ll Do

  • Facilitate employee engagement, training, and development initiatives within the team.
  • Manage suppliers and ensure material availability to support production plans and timelines.
  • Optimize inventory levels to balance production needs and cost efficiency.
  • Monitor supplier performance and support sourcing strategy development and execution.
  • Design and implement inventory strategies that ensure material availability, cost optimization, and efficient inventory management.
  • Support and manage inbound freight initiatives and related spend.
  • Contribute to new product introductions (NPI) and product validation processes.
  • Provide regular updates to management on work-in-progress, material availability, and potential supply risks; proactively recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Engineering, Inventory Control, and other teams to ensure operational alignment.
  • Evaluate planning, purchasing, and distribution processes; recommend and implement improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Analyze scrap material trends to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.
  • Participate in team and departmental meetings to share updates on production materials and key developments.
  • Support divisional initiatives in alignment with Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering or related field.

  • 8+ year s of experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • At least7 years of experience in purchasing, production planning, or supply chain functions.

  • Working knowledge of materials management and manufacturing systems (MRP/ERP).

  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

  • Proven track record of leading teams to deliver results on time and within budget.

  • Demonstrated experience driving continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean Manufacturing).

  • Fully bilingual: English and Spanish (required) ​

Preferred Qualifications & Education

  • SAP experience.
  • Knowledge in GMP/ISO9002
