About the role

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Operations Scientist 1Location: Witney

Bring your passion, ideas and purpose to life in a company that can truly help you achieve your full potential.

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems, for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures significant volumes of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation Free Style Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a graduate-level Operations Scientist to join our manufacturing and R&D facility in Witney, West Oxfordshire within our Technical Services Sensor Team. Working in a small and friendly team, you will be providing technical support to Witney’s manufacturing facility. At Abbott, you can work with great people to help our patients and customers live their best lives.

Day-to-day, your work will be to plan and carry out projects and investigations to support manufacturing processes and yield improvements. You’ll need to enjoy interpreting data and writing reports, as a lot of your work will involve analysing results and making recommendations on material, machinery or process improvements. At Abbott, you can shape your career whilst helping to shape the future of healthcare.

You will also be given additional responsibility for continuous improvement projects and will be required to provide technical expertise to colleagues in engineering, production and quality. This will include writing technical reports and process documentation.

Your Background

To be successful, you should ideally have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline, or the equivalent experience. Those with a strong secondary level education and a passion for science are also encouraged to apply.

You must also have excellent attention to detail skills, a logical and methodical approach to problem solving, the ability to prioritise and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances or new demands. A lot of your work will involve cross-functional teams, so you’ll also need the communication and inter-personal skills to be able to build relationships with colleagues in various departments across the business.

You will be expected to spend time in the manufacturing facility, so will need to have, or be able to develop, good hands-on practical skills. Good IT skills including Excel and PowerPoint are also required for this role.

Why Abbott?

In addition to a competitive salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes a market-leading defined contribution pension scheme, private healthcare and life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme which you can tailor to your own requirements. At Witney, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it’s joining our couch to 5k team, tending the allotments, learning to be a bee keeper, dropping in for a yoga session, there is plenty going for you to engage with as and when you wish!
