About the Role

Location: Gilching near Munich
We are looking for a Senior / Principal Engineer to join our site in Gilching near Munich, working closely with local development teams and collaborating with ABB R&D colleagues in Sweden and China. You will be part of an innovative environment focused on next-generation autonomous robotic systems, helping to strengthen ABB's position as a global technology leader.

Key Responsibilities
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Drive the design and development of autonomous, versatile robotic systems, including mechatronic concepts, sensor solutions, and next-generation sensor integration
- Take technical leadership, contribute with deep expertise while shaping architectural and design decisions
- Demonstrate a strong hands-on and solution-oriented mindset, driving prototypes and early integrations from concept to stable implementation while keeping the final product in focus
- Work in close collaboration with cross-functional teams and international R&D organizations across multiple locations
- Act as a mentor to colleagues and junior team members, sharing knowledge, experience, and lessons learned
- Apply solid mechatronic expertise across sensors, electronics, control software, and mechanical systems
- Any hobby like robot, drone or model airplane building, AI driven control systems, or contributing to Linux source code is a plus
Qualifications
- Profound knowledge and hands-on experience in autonomous and versatile systems
- More than 3 years of relevant professional experience in robotics, mechatronics, or a related field
- Outstanding Master's degree in mechatronics, robotics, or a comparable discipline
- Fluent English skills, ideally complemented by German language skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across borders and cultures
