General information

The R&D Certification Engineer plays a fundamental role supporting strategic technology direction working with the R&D Senior Certification Engineer, by assisting and leading part of certification activities and providing guidance to all departments on the application of standards and regulations related to ABB’s Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) systems.

Reporting to the CoE Laboratory Manager, you will support the R&D Agile Team’s by performing assigned tasks, focusing on certification activities tasks using technical knowledge in a structured way.

Your responsibilities

• Develop and maintain product certification for existing and new products, dealing with renewals and product design updates.
• Develop and maintain all certification documentation, maintaining proper records, certification files, developing and improving these where necessary.
• Work closely with product development team and manage test partners (UL, Intertek, Dekra, Eurofins, etc.) to scope and plan test programs to demonstrate compliance to IEC or UL applicable standards.
• Carry out and monitor practical certification testing.
• Constantly research the regulatory environment and facilitate discussions regarding changes in regulatory requirements.

Your background

• Technician diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electrotechnics.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience, including work with power electronic systems.
• Knowledge of product regulations and standards (IEC, UL); familiarity with LCA and Environmental Sustainability is an advantage.
• Experience working with certification bodies and conducting certification-related tasks.
• Hands‑on experience with laboratory measurement equipment.
• Ability to work independently on testing and certification activities.
• Availability to perform certification tests in external laboratories (travel required).
• Proficiency in Italian and English for effective communication. German is an asset.
