This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we've announced the plan for Soft Bank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. Role Overview
Reports to: R&D Principal Engineer
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.
Work Model: Onsite/Hybrid in San Jose, CA
Responsibilities
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Explore and apply Generative AI techniques to curate datasets and create demos (e.g., speech, content generation)
- Contribute fresh ideas on how AI/GenAI can streamline data-centric workflows and enhance decision-making
- Support data management processes, ensuring high-quality datasets for model training and evaluation
- Exposure to robotic solutions
- Assist in developing frameworks to leverage data for improving model performance
- Collaborate with the team to document best practices and data workflows
- Help prepare reports and presentations for management review
- Participate in cross-functional projects to enhance R&D efficiency
- Engage in team meetings and contribute ideas for optimizing R&D operations
- Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the R&D team
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a PhD or master's degree program in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field in the United States
- Reliable transportation to and from the worksite
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future
- Critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress

Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly Rate: $20 - $34 per hour (determined by qualifications, graduation year, and experience)
- Internships at ABB within the United States are not eligible for company-sponsored medical benefits, 401(k) contributions, or paid time off
