About the Role

At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we'll give you what you need to make it happen. It won't always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you'll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This position reports to: Senior Legal Counsel

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide strategic legal counsel and uphold the highest standards of integrity within ABB's Robotics business – a pioneering, global leader in automation and robotics. Each day, you will ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards, while also enabling agile, innovative business outcomes. You will showcase your expertise by effectively managing legal risks, advising senior stakeholders, and fostering a culture of integrity across the organization.

This is a unique opportunity to join us during an exciting transformation. As ABB Robotics prepares for acquisition by Soft Bank Group – a global leader in AI, robotics, and next-generation computing – you'll be part of a pioneering team shaping the future of intelligent automation in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.

  • Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, leading contractual strategy in alignment with business goals
  • Acting as a key advisor to senior business stakeholders, facilitating risk-based decision-making and ensuring legal issues are communicated clearly and proactively
  • Leading and managing high-exposure legal matters, including litigation, regulatory interactions, and sensitive commercial disputes
  • Supporting corporate governance activities such as board meetings, resolutions, filings, and cross-border legal obligations
  • Advising on strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and go-to-market initiatives including M&A, partner selection, and commercial alliances
  • Contributing legal support in territories without a dedicated in-country legal function (e.g., Ireland and South Africa), as required

Qualifications

  • You are highly skilled in UK corporate and commercial law, with experience advising on complex legal matters in an international business context
  • You have 7–12 years of experience working as a legal counsel in a multinational company or top-tier law firm, preferably within a technology-driven or industrial sector
  • You are adept in contract law, litigation, and regulatory matters, with a proven ability to advise senior stakeholders and influence business outcomes
  • You are engaged in using legal technology and are comfortable navigating agile, fast-changing environments with multiple jurisdictions
  • You are passionate about integrity, collaboration, and enabling business growth through pragmatic, risk-based legal advice
  • You hold an LLM from a recognized law school and are a UK-qualified lawyer (Solicitor or Barrister)
  • You are at ease communicating in English (written and spoken); additional regional languages are a plus
  • You hold current licenses to practice law in the UK and valid UK work authorization
