This Position reports to:

R&D Manager – North America

This internship is a full-time summer position scheduled for 2026, with a hybrid work model requiring three days per week onsite at the Dorval office. It is embedded within a dynamic product development and mechanical engineering environment that emphasizes cross-functional collaboration, from concept generation to manufacturing. The primary focus is on mechanical design, CAD Modelling, prototyping, and continuous product improvement for newly developed and customized products.

Responsibilities

The intern will become an integral member of a mechanical R&D team, contributing to the physical realization and optimization of new products. The role involves hands-on design, validation, and collaboration tasks aligned with production priorities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and 3D Modeling: Creation of precise 2D drawings and complex 3D models/assemblies for newly developed or customized products.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Evaluate mechanical concepts and build functional prototypes. Perform various mechanical tests, including metrology validation and pilot runs, to ensure design viability and robustness.
  • Product Optimization: Participate actively in product development activities and cost-saving opportunities, utilizing methodologies such as functional specifications, Design for Assembly (DFA), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Documentation Management: Create and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) connected to new product development to ensure seamless transitions to manufacturing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Marketing, Production, and R&D project managers to align mechanical designs with broader project goals.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all procedures and rules related to ensuring quality, health, safety, and respect for the environment. Perform any other related tasks or projects, as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a strong foundation in mechanical principles, technical software proficiency, and hands-on capability:

  • Student completing their bachelor degree in mechanical or related engineering field

Technical Skills:

  • CAD Proficiency: Must have a good proficiency in 2D and 3D parametric modeling software, specifically Solid-Works and PTC Creo.
  • Manufacturing Design: Understanding of designing for low or high-volume manufacturing, with a focus on cost opti-mization.
  • System Environments: Familiarity with a Product Life-cycle Management (PLM) environment is considered a strong asset for managing design data.
  • Hands-on Execution: Ability to perform manual tasks with precision, specifically related to physical prototyping and testing methodologies.

Soft Skills & Methodology:

  • Task Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Team Collaboration: A good team player with experience working as part of a multidisciplinary group.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrates creativity, logic, ingenuity, and excellent problem-solving skills to overcome design challenges.
