Reports to: Service Center Manager, PAPI Upper Midwest
Work Model: # in Escanaba, MI
In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB quality and safety guidelines. Each day, you will deliver quality customer service planning and execute service work as per customer order and expectation. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring customer retention by effectively communicating service work timeline and expectations.
Your Responsibilities
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Maintain quality control hardware and software (cleaning debris from sensors, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues with the frame and sensor package, troubleshooting the computer system and HMI/control software, and maintaining the working state of the entire ABB quality control solution)
- Resolve customer service-related issues while fostering customer relationships and working to solve technical problems on-site
- Deal directly with, and communicate effectively with plant operators, plant management, 3rd party vendors, and other ABB personnel in support of service operations
- Rotational on-call for 24-hour emergency support service requests
- Accurately document the work that is performed for periodic preventive maintenance and intermittent corrective maintenance tasks
- Play an active role in various projects such as upgrades, new installations, or new functionality for customers
- Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting commitments
- Apply safety rules and safe practices, as well as environmental responsibilities during all service activities
- Lead Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities at customer sites and report unsafe practices and incidents to ensure a safe working environment
- Identify new service business opportunities in close cooperation with customers and ABB teams
- Coach technicians and engineers, and supervise complex site activities and develop, mentor, and provide technical guidance to colleagues
- Act as a trainer when needed, for both team members and customers
Qualifications
- Associate's degree and 2+ years of electrical/electronics, instrumentation or process control related experience required; OR HS diploma/GED and 4+ years of related experience required
- Ability to use electrical test equipment such as voltmeters or multi-meters
- Mechanical/Electrical aptitude including a basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical safety
- Ability to read electrical drawings and troubleshoot electrical systems; ability to diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems up to 240 VAC/870 VDC and perform preventive maintenance using electrical test equipment; ability to identify voltage systems that are above the level 240 VAC/870 VDC
- Comfortable using basic hand tools
- Basic understanding of the paper making process and process control preferred
- Exposure to DCS programming and troubleshooting is beneficial
- Travel up to 15% for training and assisting other sites as needed

Process Industries Division serves the mining, minerals processing, metals, cement, pulp and paper, battery manufacturing, and food and beverage, as well as their associated service industries. The Division brings deep industry domain expertise coupled with the ability to integrate both automation and electrical systems, increase productivity and reduce overall capital and operating costs for customers. For mining, metals and cement customers, solutions include specialized products and services, as well as total production systems. The Division designs, plans, engineers, supplies, installs and commissions integrated electrical and motion systems, including electric equipment, drives, motors, high power rectifiers and equipment for automation and supervisory control within a variety of areas including mineral handling, mining operations, aluminum smelting, hot and cold steel applications and cement production. The offering for the pulp and paper industries includes control systems, quality control systems, drive systems, on-line sensors, actuators and field instruments. Digitalization solutions, including collaborative operations and augmented reality, help improve plant and enterprise productivity, and reduce maintenance and energy costs.
