Reports to: R&D Team Lead

Responsibilities

  • Contribute significantly to successful project results in technology and/or product development by identifying, proposing and implementing innovative solutions
  • Use unique technical knowledge to oversee development tasks
  • Demonstrate solid competence in technologies, tools and methods in own specialist area through solving complex industrial problems
  • Maintain recognized expertise in specific area by externally reviewing current technologies
  • Determine effective applications, equipment and methods to develop, market or manufacture new products or new software to respond to customer requirements cost effectively
  • Contribute to the development of strategic technology plans and project portfolio in own organization
  • Perform a variety of complex technology/engineering assignments, which typically require the use of advanced and innovative techniques
  • Demonstrate sound working knowledge of relevant processes and tools and train junior team members when needed
  • Act as a project leader or experienced project member
  • Ensure solid understanding of the drivers, as well as state-of-the art technologies, tools and methods in own competence area
  • Actively seek and implement initiatives to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to the project, providing guidance to colleagues and more junior team members, acting as a mentor and sharing lessons learned
  • Provide consulting services to business operations and customers within own area of expertise
  • Represent own group/team in Engineering forums, both internal and external to ABB
  • Have overview of IP in own specialist area and develop project IP strategies
  • Identify and manage risks in research and development (R&D) projects as well as in own organization

Qualifications

Education & Experience Required

  • MS/PhD with 8+ years working experience, major in electronics engineering, automation or equivalent
  • Demonstrated solid technical proficiency in power electronics area, e.g. analog/digital electronics, circuit theory, power electronics, electric drive, electromagnetics, etc.
  • Demonstrated sound understanding of R&D processes and tools
  • Demonstrated solid proficiency in EDA tools, e.g. OrCAD, Ansys, Matlab, etc.
  • Demonstrated rich experience on rectifier and inverter design
  • Familiar with various power topology

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in servo drive, AC/DC power supply, and new energy product development
  • Familiar with motor control algorithm
  • Familiar with Robotics or industrial automation international regulation/standard (ISO, EN, IEC, UL and etc.)

  • Good team work spirit and willing to contribute to the team's success
  • Capable of managing changes and multi-tasks during the development phase
  • Fluent in both oral and written English
