At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we’ll give you what you need to make it happen. It won’t always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you’ll never run alone. Run what runs the world.

This role sits within ABB's Robotics business, a leading global robotics company. We're entering an exciting new chapter as we’ve announced the plan for Soft Bank Group to acquire ABB Robotics. Soft Bank is a globally recognized technology group and investor/operator focused on AI, robotics, and next-generation computing. By joining us now, you’ll be part of a pioneering team shaping the future of robotics—working alongside world-class experts in a fast-moving, innovation-driven environment.

This Position reports to:

R&D Team Lead:

Main Responsibilities:

1.

Structural Simulation & Optimization:

  • Lead the structural strength analysis and risk assessment of the entire robot arm/components
  • Lead the structural simulation analysis of robot products: including but not limited to static analysis and dynamic analysis: modal, random vibration and shock, etc. Conduct rapid and accurate nonlinear transient dynamics analysis of structures
  • Applying the simulation results, actively driven the structural design and optimization iteration of the robot, and output the effective design improvement plan. Identify potential risks in the early stage of design to enhance the structural performance and reliability of the product
  • Complete the Verification and Validation of the simulation model through the correlation analysis of test data and simulation results to ensure its prediction accuracy
  • Lightweight Design Leadership: Apply topology/topography optimization to balance performance vs. weight

2. NPD Support

  • Provide FEA decision support throughout product lifecycle (concept design→prototype validation)
  • Optimize critical components (joints/arm links/base housings/connectors etc.) based on simulation results
  • Advise material selection (metals/composites) & manufacturing processes (casting/AM)

3.

Engineering Problem Solving:

  • Replicate and root-cause field failures (fracture/abnormal vibration) via FEA
  • Lead solution development and validation for structural issues

4. Technical Governance

  • Responsible for writing, reviewing and archiving authoritative product simulation analysis reports to ensure the accuracy and traceability of technical conclusions
  • Engage in advanced simulation technology exchanges with domestic and foreign research institutions, industry partners and suppliers, and introduce and digest cutting-edge technical methods
  • Ensure full traceability of analysis processes (assumptions→conclusions)
  • Drive adoption of FEA best practices within the team

Job Requirements:

BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, Aerospace or related

5+ years expert in ANSYS Workbench: End-to-end modeling/solving/post-processing

Solid theoretical foundation: Structural mechanics/Material science/Vibration theory/Elasto-plastic analysis

Hands-on experience with:
› Static & nonlinear contact analysis
› Modal/Transient dynamics (Implicit & Explicit)
› Fatigue life assessment (S-N/E-N methods)

Knowledge of engineering materials (metal/composite constitutive models)

Core Competencies: Quickly complete the iterative updates of design and simulation
› Extreme rigor (model details/boundary conditions/result interpretation)
› Systematic problem-solving skills
› Cross-functional communication (simplifying technical insights)

Fluent English reading/writing/spoken (technical documentation/standards)
