The Director of Global Maintenance & Contractor Management Programs is responsible for developing, standardizing, and deploying maintenance strategies and contractor management processes across all manufacturing sites worldwide. This role ensures consistent execution of preventive and predictive maintenance programs, contractor safety compliance, and quality assurance standards to optimize asset reliability, reduce costs, and maintain operational excellence. The position partners with regional and site leaders to drive a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement. This role requires someone to be a very effective change management leader.

Global Maintenance Strategy & Governance
- Define, Improve and implement global maintenance standards, policies, and procedures for all sites.
- Develop corporate guidelines for preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
- Establish a standard global KPIs and reporting systems to monitor maintenance performance and contractor compliance.
- Ensure alignment of maintenance programs with corporate objectives for safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
- Responsible for assessing the current-state maintenance landscape across 3M sites to baseline planning quality, scheduling, backlog standards, contractor management practices, and execution discipline.
- Work with peers including the Global Reliability Director and site leaders to develop global maintenance SOPs and a coordinated implementation roadmap.
- Link maintenance execution directly to reliability outcomes: PM effectiveness, MTBF improvements, downtime reductions.
- Delivery of processes and provide assurance for maintenance scope challenge, readiness verification and post-event learning.
Contractor Management & Compliance
- The face of contractor oversight for 3M’S Maintenance, Inspection and Engineering contracts supporting the sites.
- Develop and deploy a global contractor management framework, including qualification, onboarding, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure compliance with EHS standards and regulatory requirements for all contracted work.
- Implement global QA/QC processes for contractor work, including inspection protocols and accountability measures.
- Define ownership and review intervals for contractor performance evaluations at site and regional levels.
Program Deployment & Continuous Improvement
- Lead global rollout of maintenance and contractor management initiatives, including training and technology platforms.
- Drive adoption of systematic methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for maintenance optimization.
- Benchmark best practices internally and externally to continuously improve maintenance and contractor management performance including cost, time on tools and quality.
- Implement effective spare parts, stock items and Bill of Material Strategies for the manufacturing sites.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as the corporate subject matter expert for maintenance execution and contractor management.
- Partner with site engineering and maintenance leaders to ensure consistent execution of global programs.
- Provide coaching and development for regional maintenance leaders and contractor management teams.
- Collaborate with EHS, Operations, and Supply Chain to integrate maintenance and contractor management into broader business strategies.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Safety & Compliance: Zero contractor-related OSHA recordable incidents globally.
- 100% compliance with contractor qualification and onboarding standards.
- Maintenance Performance: Achieve >95% PM compliance and completion rate globally.
- Emergency and Schedule breaker work - **Contractor Quality:**100% adherence to QA/QC protocols for craft and contractor work.
- Complete contractor performance reviews at defined intervals for the critical vendors.
- Cost Optimization: Reduce global maintenance cost annually.
- Reduce maintenance hourly and contractor overtime to 10% or less.
- Delivery contracted projects on time and within budget (target: 95% adherence).
- Program Adoption: Achieve 100% implementation of global maintenance and contractor management standards at all sites.
- Training & Development: Ensure 100% completion of contractor safety and compliance training for all site leaders.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications
- Bachelor ’s degree in engineering, or science field (completed and verified prior to start)
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in maintenance leadership roles, including global or multi-site responsibility. Strong contractor performance management experience in a private, public, government or military environment
- Five (5) years of experience in maintenance optimization, contractor management, and reliability principles.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, EHS standards, and manufacturing best practices.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills.
Work Location:
- This position has the possibility for remote work for candidates located more than 50-miles from to 3M Hub in Austin, TX. Employees located within a commutable distance to 3M Global Headquarters must work on-site at least 4 days per week.Travel: includes up to 50% domestic and international travel

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
