AI Resume Builder Pricing: What to Compare Beyond Cost

Compare AI resume plans by billing period, usage limits, job-posting analysis and whether suggested keywords are supported by your experience. refresh.cv lists Free at $0, Pro at $14.99/month and Max at $49.99/month. Resume-quality scoring is separate from job-specific fit; Mock Apply is a supporting preparation step after tailoring.

Before comparing subscription prices, check the billing period, the AI allowance, the job-specific analysis and the export formats you need. The number of revisions per application varies, so a five-action allowance does not translate into a fixed number of complete applications.

Four criteria, fixed before any comparison

These four checks help compare plans without treating a low advertised monthly equivalent as the entire cost.

  1. Price and billing period — distinguish the amount charged now from a monthly equivalent on a longer commitment.
  2. Usage limits — check which operations consume an allowance and which reset each month.
  3. Job-specific evidence matching — inspect how requirements and keywords connect to your actual experience, separately from document-quality scoring.
  4. Practical access — verify templates, document exports and any optional preparation features you intend to use.

Treat Mock Apply as an optional follow-up to truthful tailoring. It does not replace checking the underlying experience or predict an employer’s decision.

What the plans actually cost in 2026

The refresh.cv and Rezi prices below were checked against their official pages. For other providers, use the linked current plan page instead of relying on a third-party rate or an unverified promotion.

Service Price or current-plan reference Official source
refresh.cv Free $0; Pro $14.99/month; Max $49.99/month Plans
Rezi Pro $29/month; Lifetime $149 one-time Plans
Kickresume Check the selected billing period and current charge Plans
Teal Compare Free and Teal+ with the current billing option Plans
Jobscan Check current plan and renewal terms Plans

Compare the amount due at checkout, the renewal interval and cancellation terms. A rate displayed per month may require a longer upfront commitment, and a short-term pass should be compared by total cost for the period you expect to use it.

The same subscription can cost more three months in

Billing structures split into three types. Monthly-cap plans reset a fixed number of AI actions every period, and most free tiers work this way. Credit-based plans deduct from a balance per action. An unlimited label applies to the operations named by that plan; separate credit-based features can still have limits.

Usage matters when you create and revise multiple documents. Resume editing, cover-letter drafting and repeated revisions may consume allowances differently. Count the operations in your own workflow rather than assuming every application takes the same number of AI actions.

That's the reasoning behind keeping resume editing, job-specific tailoring, cover letter AI, and resume scoring unlimited on our Pro plan. Mock Apply, by contrast, runs on credits (1 a month on Free, 10 on Pro, 50 on Max), because we think unlimited access makes sense for editing tools, but a metered credit makes more sense for a feature tied to a specific application decision.

Here's what job-specific tailoring actually does: paste in a job description, and it extracts the requirements and ATS keywords, then compares them against your resume's current wording and your actual experience evidence. That comparison sorts into three groups — (1) keyword and evidence both present, (2) relevant experience present but the exact keyword phrasing missing, (3) both keyword and evidence missing — so wording fixes can be distinguished from actual experience gaps. We don't suggest inventing experience or padding keyword counts. Resume score analysis (specificity, achievements, wording, grammar) is a separate, document-level assessment that runs alongside this, not a substitute for it.

A keyword without supporting experience is not evidence of a match. If a term is already on the resume but you cannot substantiate it, remove or qualify that claim rather than inventing a role, result or skill. The three-state product breakdown does not make an unsupported keyword truthful.

An annualized rate helps if your search runs for months. A lifetime payment pencils out if you expect to job-hop repeatedly over years. If you plan to wrap up your search within a few weeks, a short-term pass can beat a monthly subscription on total cost; we offer a 7-day pass for that reason.

Passing the ATS screen is now the minimum bar

The effect of AI-assisted editing on hiring outcomes has real experimental backing. NBER Working Paper 30886 by Emma Wiles, Zanele T. Munyikwa, and John J. Horton randomized algorithmic writing assistance across 480,948 job seekers in a field experiment and found higher hiring rates among the group that received it. According to MIT Sloan's summary of the study, job offers rose 7.8% and wages rose 8.4% for the assisted group.

The conditions of that result matter as much as the headline number. The study population was job seekers newly registering on an online freelance labor platform, and more than 80% of the sample were non-native English speakers, per MIT Sloan. The intervention itself was limited to grammar and phrasing corrections applied to text the applicant had already written.

What's validated, in other words, is AI polishing a person's own material, not AI generating content from scratch. That distinction is a useful filter when comparing tools: does the product take your career details as input and refine them, or does it generate résumé language from little more than a job title?

What's happening on the hiring side

Employer-side data tells a different part of the story. In a survey published by Robert Half in March 2026, 67% of US HR leaders said reviewing AI-generated applications had slowed their hiring process, and 20% reported delays of two weeks or more. The same survey found 65% of hiring managers said AI-enhanced resumes made it harder to verify a candidate's real skills. Respondents were more than 2,000 US hiring decision-makers, surveyed in November 2025.

Ryan McCarty, branch director at Robert Half in Cincinnati, told a local news outlet that employers are now receiving hundreds of resumes that look nearly identical, making it difficult to tell which applicants are genuine (NY1).

Generic or unsupported wording gives a reviewer less useful evidence about a candidate. We do not use an unverified percentage of recruiters supposedly rejecting AI-written resumes as a reason to buy a tool.

When comparing feature lists, test whether the suggestions reflect the specific posting and your actual work. A generic “AI writing” label does not establish the quality of that match.

Passing the resume screen isn't the finish line

Hiring processes vary, and some include AI-assisted interviews. The Greenhouse 2026 Candidate AI Interview Report surveyed 2,950 active job seekers and found 63% had experienced an AI-conducted interview, up 13 percentage points in six months. In the same report, 38% said they had dropped out of a hiring process specifically because it included an AI interview.

The practical test becomes whether you can defend, out loud, every line you put on the resume. Screen-stage optimization is about keyword alignment. Interview-stage readiness demands that every claim on the page have evidence and specifics behind it.

Mock Apply, our tool for this stage, is a supplementary preparation feature: it checks role fit against a specific posting before you submit and flags lines that may lack supporting evidence for a likely interview follow-up question, so you can review them before you apply. It doesn't predict hiring outcomes, guarantee interview success, or claim a capability unique to refresh.cv — it's a preparation aid, not a proven differentiator. Because it's tied to an actual application decision rather than general editing, we meter it in credits instead of leaving it unlimited.

Cover letters can be written, edited, and scored in English, Japanese, and Chinese on every plan. Even the Free tier includes cover letter drafting and a shareable resume page. The full list is on our pricing page.

If you only need a few revisions, test the Free allowance against your actual workflow before upgrading. Compare template and export access directly; neither a higher price nor a lower annualized rate guarantees better job-specific analysis.

Which plan fits which situation

  • Several tailored applications: estimate how often you revise the resume and cover letter, and compare that with the actual AI allowance.
  • A short search period: compare the total charge for a pass with one month of access; a pass is not automatically cheaper.
  • A need for detailed analysis: trial the documented checker and targeting features using the same resume and posting.
  • Optional application preparation: compare Mock Apply credits only after the writing and evidence-matching workflow fits your needs.

FAQ

Can I get through a job search on a free plan alone?

Free includes limited AI use and job-specific analysis, resume and cover-letter tools, a public resume page and one monthly Mock Apply credit. Whether that is sufficient depends on the revisions and exports you need; check the current plan details rather than assuming a fixed number of applications.

What's the real difference between Pro and Max?

Unlimited AI, job-specific tailoring, and ATS keyword analysis are identical on both plans. The difference is Mock Apply volume (10 versus 50 credits a month) and priority access to newer AI models. Max only pencils out if you're tracking multiple roles or applying at high volume simultaneously.

Does it hurt my chances if a recruiter notices AI involvement?

This article does not establish a rejection probability based on AI authorship. The writing-assistance experiment studied a particular intervention and population; it does not predict your outcome. Keep every claim accurate and review the resulting document yourself.

How are resume quality, job-specific analysis and Mock Apply different?

Resume-quality analysis evaluates the document’s specificity, achievements, wording and grammar. Job-specific analysis compares the posting’s requirements and ATS keywords with the resume’s wording and actual experience evidence. Mock Apply is a supplementary preparation check after tailoring; it is not the only job-fit feature and does not predict hiring outcomes.

How should I verify competitor prices?

Use the official links in the comparison table and check the selected billing interval, amount charged and renewal terms. Where a current amount was not verified, this guide links to the provider rather than repeating an older third-party price.

Start with one posting and your existing resume: separate document quality from job-specific fit, check every keyword against real experience, and compare the allowance needed for truthful revisions. Use refresh.cv’s plan page to choose the appropriate access level. Mock Apply can follow as an optional preparation step.
