Position Summary:

The General Manager Production-Shipping & Receiving and Buildings & Grounds is responsible for directing, training, and holding supervisors accountable across all operational and facility functions within the Shipping & Receiving Department at the Vicksburg Plant. This role leads end‑to‑end execution of production, shipping, receiving, and facility operations while ensuring safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and Team Member engagement.

This position is accountable for operational performance including safety, quality, yields, attendance, discipline, turnover, absenteeism, workers’ compensation, bid movement, Team Member morale, and facility readiness. The General Manager serves as a key member of the plant leadership team and ensures the physical plant, buildings, and grounds fully support uninterrupted, compliant operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Production, Shipping & Receiving Leadership

  • Direct and train supervisors in all facets of operations, including production paperwork, yields, product rotation, scheduling, time and attendance, discipline, motivation, turnover reduction, absenteeism management, safety, and problem‑solving.
  • Maintain accountability for daily production execution, shipping accuracy, receiving flow, and adherence to production schedules.
  • Oversee production supervisors’ departments, ensuring proper staffing, labor utilization, and continuous product flow.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, inventory movement, and dock execution across shipping and receiving functions.

Facilities, Buildings & Grounds Oversight

  • Provide leadership and accountability for Buildings & Grounds and Facilities operations, ensuring the plant’s infrastructure, common areas, docks, parking lots, and grounds are safe, clean, secure, and operational.
  • Ensure facility conditions support food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance in a fresh food manufacturing environment.
  • Oversee facility‑related work prioritization, preventive maintenance coordination, and responsiveness to issues impacting safety or operations.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Safety, Sanitation, Environmental, and external vendors to ensure compliance with OSHA, USDA, and Tyson facility standards.

Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain accountability for safety, quality, workers’ compensation, and regulatory performance across all areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure understanding and application of HACCP principles, including the ability to support CCP monitoring and verification.
  • Oversee CCP verification schedules and ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
  • Lead and oversee the plant Safety Committee, ensuring active engagement and corrective action follow‑through.

People Leadership & Team Member Engagement:

  • Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and managers; identify and address performance gaps through training and accountability.
  • Maintain responsibility for Team Member morale, engagement, bid movement, and turnover mitigation.
  • Support discipline processes and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures.
  • Motivate teams and lead problem‑solving initiatives and special projects as assigned.

Performance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Maintain accountability for key performance areas including safety, quality, yield, labor efficiency, turnover, absenteeism, and facility condition.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, and walkthroughs across all areas of responsibility.
  • Identify operational, people, or facility issues and drive corrective actions to sustainable closure.

Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing supervisory role OR
  • 2+ years of Tyson supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with processing floor operations preferred.
  • HACCP certification or working knowledge of HACCP principles preferred.
  • Knowledge of fresh meats processing preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to access all areas of the production floor to conduct audits and inspections, including use of fixed ladders, stairs, and steps.
  • Ability to tolerate environmental conditions in assigned areas; temperatures may range from 28°–45° Fahrenheit.

Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills required (e.g., Workday, production documentation, reporting).

Communication Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and Team Members.

Special Skills:

  • Team leadership
  • Problem‑solving
  • Motivation and ownership of special projects

Supervisory Responsibility

  • Responsible for all Shipping & Receiving operations at the facility, including:

Managing all Shipping & Receiving supervisors:

  • Shipping & Receiving schedules and product rotation
  • CCP verification schedules
  • Engagement in Safety
  • Reviewing and developing leaders and addressing performance deficiencies

Travel

  • Some travel required as needed.
