About Us

Nu is one of the largest digital financial platforms in the world, with more than 122 million customers across Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia. Guided by our mission to fight complexity and empower people, we are redefining financial services in Latin America and this is still just the beginning of the purple future we're building.

Listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: NU), we combine proprietary technology, data intelligence, and an efficient operating model to deliver financial products that are simple, accessible, and human.

Our impact has been recognized by global rankings such as Time 100 Companies, Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies, and Forbes World’s Best Bank. Visit our institutional page https://international.nubank.com.br/careers/

About the team

As Nu continues its global expansion and continues innovating, the risk landscape becomes increasingly complex. While Nubank has developed a strong Risk structure within the 2nd Line of Defence, we are looking to continue strengthening our risk maturity in the 1st Line. The BCO team was therefore created to directly support the various Business Units of Nubank with managing their risks in a proactive manner, with the assumption that the 2nd and 3rd lines of defense do not exist.

This team is also continuously evolving, and BCOs are expected to directly contribute to the development of the BCO structure, by bringing their ideas to the table, and help create "Best in Class" Risk Management in the 1st line of Defense.

About the role

To support the Business Units in achieving their objectives, the BCOs will be expected to balance risk and business priorities. By being hands-on, they will lead by example and support the teams, always keeping in mind the vision that we have established: "To empower the 1st line Nubankers to become proactive Risk Owners, ensuring adherence to standards and protecting the interests of the company and stakeholders*".*

To do so, the BCOs follow 3 pillars of focus:

  • Processes & Internal Controls: Ensuring that our functions/BUs are managing their risks through thorough understanding of their processes and its control environment, but also by identifying improvement opportunities in how we work. This will in turn drive more efficiency with our various partners across the various lines of Defense and showcase increased maturity.

  • Governance, Risk & Compliance: Ensuring that our functions/BUs are in line with internal and external regulatory and risk requirements. This showcases strong alignment with the various functions leading our internal governance allowing us to focus with more certainty on product and features development.

  • Measuring & Reporting: Ensuring that BCOs have developed appropriate KPIs to facilitate the monitoring of the programs above and validating that functions/BUs are delivering as per the established goals.

As a BCO you will

  • Support/coordinate the business in managing and fulfilling its First Line Risk Management activities (Onboarding process, due diligence, credit and financial analysis on large, corporate and payment institutions, Losses & Risk Events, Internal control management, continuous improvement…)

  • Build relevant governance in a useful and non bureaucratic way

  • Define and** rate** the internal control & risk environment

  • Proactively identify risk areas and tackle relevant remediation activities

  • Add a risk lens to strategy and product development

  • Drive and** complete** documentation activities to minimize single point sensitivities and conduct process mapping

  • High level SOX knowledge a plus

  • Hands-on and take ownership where possible

  • Independence and proactivity

  • Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization
