We're seeking a lawyer to join our team, based either in Hong Kong or Taiwan, to provide legal advisory support to Morgan Stanley's APAC Institutional Equity business. The role will also include legal advisory support for the Firm's Taiwan business.
The lawyers and other professionals of the Legal & Compliance Division (LCD) provide a wide range of services to our business units. They might help to structure a complex and sensitive cross-border transaction; advise on a new product introduction; develop a training program; or manage or diffuse actual or potential disputes. They preserve the Firm's invaluable reputation for integrity and protect the Firm from sanctions with policies and procedures that meet regulatory requirements around the world. They also strive to maintain cooperative relationships with governmental policy makers and the regulatory and self-regulatory agencies that govern the Firm's businesses.
What you'll do in the role:
The role is diverse and involves advising on a wide range of transactional, regulatory and country coverage matters, including the following:

Advising on core equity sales and trading matters, including agency and facilitation.

Providing legal support for electronic trading, OTC derivatives, structured products and other structured transactions.

Assessing and advising on regulatory requirements relating to existing/new/expanded markets and products.

Responding to regulatory enquiries, market structure reform and policy work.
-
Collaborating with country coverage lawyers, external counsel, and Compliance professionals across the APAC region.

Providing legal advisory support for the Firm’s Taiwan business.
What you'll bring to the role:
-
At least 6-8+ years' post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable international law firm or as in-house counsel at a leading financial institution, with legal qualification in a major financial center.

Experience in advising on equity sales and trading matters.

First-rate analytical skills and the ability to resolve issues efficiently.

Proactive, organized, detail-oriented and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

Ability to speak, read and write Chinese and specifically Mandarin will be desirable.
