About the Role Group Overview: Japan Special Situations Group (SSG) focuses on providing non-traditional liquidity and risk solutions across the capital structure to clients, operating with a mandate that spans private structured credit, distressed assets, and bespoke financing solutions.
Role Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Analyst or Associate to join our Tokyo-based SSG trading team. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical capabilities, commercial intuition, a proactive mindset, with exceptional integrity. This role offers exposure to complex capital opportunities and direct involvement in deal execution, risk management, and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct deep-dive financial and operational analysis of companies across sectors, with a focus on special situations
-
Support due diligence processes, including market research, legal review, and engagement with external parties
-
Underwrite risk, actively manage positions, and optimize outcomes through negotiations/workout
-
Collaborate internally with cross-functional partners across the globe
Qualifications, Skills, and Requirements
-
1–3 years of experience in investment banking, asset management, or a similar analytical role
-
Financial modeling and valuation skills
-
Fluent in Japanese; business level in English (spoken and written).

Strong self-management, ownership, and integrity
Preferred Attributes:

Prior exposure to special situations, illiquid structured credit, private equity, and/or real estate financing

Experience working with legal documentation and transaction structuring
-
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders
