Profile Description
We’re seeking someone to join us as Java Lead Developer at Vice President level in Risk Tech team, & play a key role in helping transform how Morgan Stanley operates.
Risk Technology supports the aggregation and monitoring of risks across all global business and products. We own cross-asset applications and services to support and enable risk management consolidation, calculation, analysis and reporting, federal marking, model inventory control, limit setting, and frameworks monitoring. In addition, these services are used to meet global regulatory requirements.
In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineer position at Vice President Level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintains software solutions that support business needs.

What you’ll do in the role:

Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, enterprise-grade reporting and analytics solutions as part of a greenfield project, driving the build vs. buy evaluation and multiple POCs.

Architect and implement robust software systems using Java, and other modern technologies, ensuring best practices in SDLC, code quality, and performance.

Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and cross-functional teams to define requirements, evaluate tools, and deliver innovative solutions aligned with business goals.

Drive the adoption of GenAI, Copilot, and AI-driven development practices to enhance automation, reporting, and developer productivity, including design, code completion, review, and automated test case generation.

Mentor and lead a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.

Manage stakeholder relationships, communicate project status, and proactively address risks and challenges.

Promote agile methodologies, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.

Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends and champion their adoption where relevant.
What you’ll bring to the role:
-
10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong background in Java (Spring Boot, REST APIs, etc.) as the primary skill.
-
Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and modern SDLC practices.
-
Proven experience building and scaling enterprise-level applications, preferably in cloud environments.
-
Proficiency in additional languages and frameworks (Python, SQL, databases, etc.) and ability to quickly learn new tech stacks as needed.

Demonstrated experience leveraging GenAI, Copilot, or AI-based tools for software development, automation, or reporting, including automated testing and code review.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
-
Experience leading and motivating high-performing teams and managing stakeholder relationships in a global environment.

Mandatory: Prior experience in finance, investment banking, or related domains.

Business acumen and ability to drive innovation and business impact through technology.

Experience with automated testing and testing frameworks.

At least 6 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role.
