The Substrate Core Substrate team powers the infrastructure that underpins Microsoft 365’s most critical services and Copilot. We are a high-impact, forward-looking team focused on building intelligent, scalable, and cost-efficient platforms that enable Microsoft to deliver world-class productivity experiences to billions of users. We are looking for a passionate and growth-oriented Software Engineer to join our team in building a platform that drives financial accountability and operational efficiency across Microsoft’s shared infrastructure. This role offers an opportunity to work on impactful systems that enable M365 Copilot. This system aims to help us deliver the platform that makes Copilot innovation fast, reliable, and regression-free.

• Responsibilities- Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.
• Work with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
• Contribute to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
• Contribute to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provide estimation.
• Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR equivalent experience.

• 1+ years' experience building backend systems, including API design and implementation.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms.

• Experience working with LLMs and prompt engineering.

• Understanding distributed systems, data pipelines, or telemetry platforms is a plus.

• Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Grafana) is a bonus.

Solid communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or PythonOR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
• OR equivalent experience.
