About the Role

As an IT Systems Manager – Packaging, at Micron Technology, you will support the packaging, deployment, and troubleshooting of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications and custom Micron applications into the Micron environment. You will be responsible for understanding the 3rd party applications that need to be packaged, work with the customers on requirements gathering, packaging the applications using tools such as Flexera Admin Studio and PowerShell, and deploying applications/packages via Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (ECM /SCCM) and other deployment tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day support of incoming packaging requests
  • Work with the SCCM team to create deployments and collections
  • Troubleshoot issues, review log files, own the issue to resolution
  • Consult with infrastructure operations, development personnel, and support teams to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Keep project members, management and customers informed of project status through various mediums
  • Plan, direct, and oversee special projects that may be assigned
  • Identify, prepare, and communicate upcoming infrastructure changes
  • Mentor team members on processes and infrastructure changes
  • Take steps to troubleshoot issues reported to them and resolve or escalate to the appropriate contact
  • Communicate and collaborate with all team members keeping the team informed (resolution of ongoing issues) and sharing information
  • During times of emergencies, outages and project planned work, be on call and available until the event is addressed. During system conversions, extra effort may be required in order to ensure the roll out of the system is successful
  • Consistently review operational client performance baselines and create plans for outliers
  • Complete projects on time and with the resources allocated
  • Create clear concise documentation
  • Take technical concepts & issues and present them in an easy-to-understand manner
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Skills & Competencies

  • Windows systems management/administration
  • Flexera Admin Studio Application packaging tool
  • Scripting languages including PowerShell, VBScript, and MS batch files
  • Minimum 4 years' experience packaging, deploying, and troubleshooting COTS applications
  • MSI technology: Edit, update, and the configuration of MSI installers and MSI custom actions using Install Shield (Flexera Admin Studio) and other packaging tools such as Orca
  • Packaging: Use scripting and MSI editing to create complex software packages that will install and configure applications to the desired state - automatically and silently
  • Custom actions and configurations
  • Complex packaging using scripting to create software packages that will install and configure applications to the desired state
  • Experience with custom packaging: Scripting and compiling MSI to create software packages. This must include:
  • Organizing files and dependencies (exe, dll, ocx)
    • Registration of .NET/COM/Assembly/Interops around custom written .NET applications using .NET 4.5 or later
  • Experience with scripting languages including SQL, WQL, PowerShell, PowerBI, VBScript, and Windows batch files
  • The ability to work in several areas of system management as part of a team or independently
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, 24x7 work environment
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Working knowledge of and adherence to ITIL principles
  • Experience maintaining technical data and documentation
  • Strong experience and working knowledge of current Windows Operating Systems
  • Solid understanding of Change Management
  • Ability to stay current with technology and trends
  • Ability to communicate and present to senior levels of the organization
  • Ability to work with international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and cultures
  • Prioritization skills – proactivity with a sense of urgency
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret business and technical documents
  • Previous desktop support experience required
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain deadlines
  • Ability to be attentive to details, be accurate, be precise
  • Ability to work in a team environment; work independently or with little supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate patience, understanding
  • Acquire job skills and learn company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required to understand, troubleshoot and calm problem situations
  • Flexible with working in different time zones

Work Experience

  • Typically, 8 to 10 years of hands-on experience in IT environment supporting Windows devices
  • 4-years' experience packaging and distributing custom written .NET applications using .NET 4.5 or later
  • 2 plus years of experience in packaging, deploying, and troubleshooting COTS applications leveraging industry standard installers (e.g. Install Shield, Install Anywhere, Install Builder)
  • Experienced in working with teams from multiple time-zones, multi-national interaction
  • Experienced in trouble-shooting multiple operating systems versions
  • Able to support individuals using different communication methods (phone, email, instant messaging)
