About the Role:

We are looking for a Field Engineer to join our Innovation Group within the Professional Services organization at Kong. As a Field Engineer in this group, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining Kong platform custom plugin components. In addition, you will also be assisting with maintaining our Migration Automation Framework using state-of-the-art AI Coding Agents to make incremental improvements with its capabilities, performance and quality. The role will blend software engineering, AI/LLM integration and API gateway custom plugin expertise.

In this role, you may interface and collaborate with a variety of peers, partners and technical people in a customer environment as you gather feedback on the operation of their custom plugins. Apart from driving the successful delivery of customer-facing plugin solutions, you will also be working and collaborating closely with Kong’s different cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Customer Success, CRE, and others).

What we are looking for:

• 3+ years of relevant software development experience

• Hands-on implementation experience with API gateway and/or API integrations in customer environments

• Practical working knowledge of API’s, containers and microservices

• Proficient in Linux environments including Cloud and Development tooling

• Experience with building Kong API Gateway custom plugins

• Experience with application development and Lua scripting required

• Experience with building and deploying software solutions using AI Coding Agents preferred

• Experience with major cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, and Azure preferred

• Passion and determination for technology and innovation

• Strong organizational and change management skills with an ability to manage competing client demands

• Proven team player and solution builder who loves to work collaboratively in a fast-growing dynamic environment

• Ability to occasionally travel to customers and Kong locations as needed

• BS in Computer Science / B.A. or equivalent technical development experience
