Job Summary
Forming part of J.P. Morgan's Global Equity Research Team, the Australia Equity Research Team covers around 180 Australian and New Zealand listed companies across all major industry groups, with a particular focus on the Mining sector for this role. The team is supported by specialist staff who provide equity strategy, ESG, quantitative and economic expertise. Equity research products (fundamental analysis, thematic pieces, working models, etc.) are produced, published, and distributed globally to institutional clients. Bespoke research and corporate access also form part of the overall equity research product offering. We are open to both Associate and Vice President level candidates.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth analysis and build financial models for mining companies and commodities.
- Produce high-quality research reports, thematic pieces, and working models for institutional clients.
- Identify and analyze sector trends, supply/demand dynamics, and market-moving news.
- Communicate research ideas and findings persuasively to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with team members and specialists to deliver cross-asset insights.
- Support client requests and provide outstanding sales and trading coverage.
- Prepare presentation materials and participate in client meetings and deal pitches.
- Ensure compliance with firm policies, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
- Guide and mentor junior team members, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships, proactively addressing their needs.
- Drive innovative research approaches and frameworks within the mining sector.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in the mining industry and/or equity research, preferably within an investment banking environment.
- Strong analytical, modeling, and problem-solving skills.
- Deep knowledge of mining sector trends, supply/demand dynamics, and market drivers.
- Ability to assess the impact of news/events across asset classes and investor types.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated leadership and initiative in delivering high-quality research outputs.
