As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Electronic Trading Services Group, you play a crucial role in an agile team dedicated to enhancing, building, and delivering reliable, market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable manner. The Electronic Trading Services Platform Engineering and Tool Development team is part of the Electronic Trading Services organization, offering both vertical (platform engineering) and horizontal (tool development) services to support other Electronic Trading Services teams and the broader Corporate and Investment Bank Electronic Trading community. Specifically, you provide compute engineering functions to the compute operations team. The Platform Engineering aspect of the team delivers a vertical service, focusing on offering top-tier operating system and hardware solutions that are finely tuned for the performance, stability, and security requirements of the Electronic Trading sector, while ensuring compliance with firm risk and accountability controls. As Subject Matter Experts for all compute-related functions within the organization, you are regarded as the final line of in-house support. The Tool Development aspect of the team provides a horizontal service, concentrating on in-house solution development and product evaluation for all teams within Electronic Trading Services, including support for configuration management, monitoring, inventory discovery and tracking, systems management, and software development. Platform Engineering is responsible for selecting annual low latency server platforms. After hardware selection, Platform Engineering focuses on optimizing the hardware with operating systems tuned for low latency. Additionally, you offer support for some core platform products.
Job responsibilities
- Perform bare metal server selection and benchmarking for low latency electronic trading
- Understanding of server build and configuration tools such as Chef and Ansible
- Act as the design authority for server configuration and build applications
- Regularly provides technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors
- Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others
- Drives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes
- Serves as a function-wide subject matter expert in one or more areas of focus
- Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Influences peers and project decision-makers to consider the use and application of leading-edge technologies
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability and 10+ years applied experience
- Advanced in one or more programming language(s) Ruby, Python
- Experience tuning and optimizing operating systems and hardware for low latency trading use cases
- Prior experience with electronic trading environments and colocations
- Understanding of markets and transaction flows for rates, equities, futures and options
- Advanced knowledge of software applications and technical processes with considerable in-depth knowledge in one or more technical disciplines (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
- Ability to tackle design and functionality problems independently with little to no oversight
- Experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
