Job Summary
Plastic & Rubber Knowledge Engineer to support material selection, product development, and manufacturing improvement. The role focuses on polymers, elastomers, molding processes, and troubleshooting material-related issues to ensure high-quality and reliable components
Responsibilities
-
Select suitable plastic and rubber materials based on application and performance.
-
Support design and manufacturing teams with material and process expertise.
-
Troubleshoot molding/extrusion/vulcanization defects and perform root cause analysis.

Conduct and coordinate material testing (tensile, hardness, aging, compression set).
-
Prepare material specifications, test reports, and technical documentation.
-
Work with suppliers to qualify and improve material quality
Basic Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, or related field.

2–5 years of experience in plastics, elastomers, or polymer processing.

Knowledge of injection molding, extrusion, or rubber compounding.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements
Fully site based and ready for international travel for training and trouble shootings
Key Competencies
Absolute KEY skills needed for role

Strong understanding of polymer science, elastomer behavior, compounding, curing, and degradation.

Knowledge of common materials (EPDM, NBR, Silicone, TPU, PP, PE, Nylon, PVC, etc.).

Ability to interpret material datasheets, rheology, and physical property behavior.
-
Ability to recommend suitable materials based on mechanical, thermal, and chemical requirements.
-
Experience comparing materials for cost, performance, and manufacturability.
-
Knowledge of molding (injection, compression, transfer), extrusion, calendaring, vulcanization, and thermoforming.
-
Awareness of tooling design considerations (draft, gating, shrinkage, parting lines).
-
Ability to troubleshoot defects such as warpage, tearing, porosity, surface defects, and incomplete curing.
-
Familiarity with ASTM/ISO material testing standards (durometer, tensile, elongation, compression set, aging, swelling).
-
Ability to design test plans and interpret results.
-
Experience with quality tools like SPC, FMEA, control plans, and root cause analysis.

Ability to propose corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
-
Understanding of process parameters affecting material performance.
-
Experience reducing scrap, improving cycle times, and optimizing curing/processing conditions.

Works closely with design, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and quality teams.

Ability to translate technical material concepts into practical engineering solutions.

Experience in supplier development and vendor qualification.
-
Ability to write clear material specifications, test reports, SOPs, and technical guidelines.

Skilled in presenting technical findings to internal teams and customers.

Strong communication for training teams on polymer/rubber concepts.

Familiarity with CAD (Solid Works/AutoCAD) for component evaluation.

Use of laboratory instruments for material characterization.

Ability to support new product development through material experiments.

Willingness to explore advanced polymers, coatings, and technologies.

Experience in prototype evaluation and scaling from lab to production.
