Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.
Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the API Services team within the Product Engineering organization. The API Services team’s mission is to build highly available, high throughput services that are critical to delivering high quality content to our subscribers. If you enjoy streaming media, are interested in live sports and entertainment, or just want to join a fast-growing team that plays an integral part of the revenue producing arm of a company, then our team is for you. Technologies include Scala, Java, Python, Apache Flink, Spark, Databricks, and AWS (ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, Kinesis, CloudFront, WAF, among others). Experience in these areas is preferred but not required.
Qualifications:

You work diligently with team members and project management to understand requirements to provide technical solutions and direction.

You are comfortable with ambiguity and being part of conversations where discordant views are present.

You have an intermediate understanding of software development fundamentals and architecture, and you aren't dogmatic about technology choices.

You preferably are interested in learning about/have experience with web technologies and web system architecture,
-
You have experience with Java, Scala, and associated technologies.
-
You have experience building and maintaining highly automated systems that leverage tools such as Jenkins, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Spinnaker

You preferably have knowledge/experience with AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, CloudFront, etc.) or other cloud providers.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

Be a part of a team of big data and backend engineers to deliver high value projects
-
Build components of large-scale data platform for real-time and batch processing, and own features of big data applications to fit evolving business needs

Participate in building next generation service platform on cloud-based big data infrastructure for batch and streaming data applications, and continuously improve performance, scalability and availability
-
Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives as a team.

Build automated tests to ensure application reliability.

Participate in code reviews.
Minimum Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training or work experience
Required Years of Work Experience:
3 years of experience in a technical field.

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $148,000.00 - $199,000.00 per year, in San Francisco CA is $155,400.00 - $199,400.00 per year and in Santa Monica, CA is $141,900.00 - $190,400.00. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
