Sports Digital Producer - Audience
Join our SportsDay team and develop strategies to connect our work, including our biggest enterprise stories and projects, with the right audiences.
This role will be at the forefront of discussions about social curation, engagement and innovation on platforms such as X, Instagram and Facebook. Duties include publishing stories, creating engaging social media posts, managing our sports homepage, making decisions based on analytics, improving and testing headlines, optimizing story pages, pushing news alerts to our readers, and collaborating with writers and editors on plans for content promotion.
What will you do?
- Manage our social media accounts daily and use them to promote content
- Produce promotion plans for high-profile stories/features to maximize reach
- Analyze traffic patterns, research new technology and implement ideas for digital coverage
- Create graphics and short-form videos curated for audiences on specific social platforms
- Pitch and work with digital and multimedia projects, mobile, photo and video
- Write SEO-friendly headlines and meta titles for all content posted
- Work as part of a producer team, filling in with trending shifts as needed
- Train and develop sports producer staff in best social media practices
- Respond to social media comments and reader emails
- Curate newsletter strategy
- Work a hybrid schedule with some mandatory in-office days each week
- Work nights, weekends and occasional holidays as dictated by the news cycle, 4:30 PM - 1 AM, subject to change
- On occasion, the audience producer may be asked to help with other producer duties, such as creating original or complementary content and covering live events.
What will it take to be successful?
Strong writing and editing skills, including the versatility to shift voice and tone based on the audience
A solid understanding of sports, social media, internet culture and the digital space
Expertise in headline writing and SEO best practices is required.
- One to three years of professional journalism experience. (Exceptional college graduates will be considered in lieu of professional experience.)
- Strong news judgment and excellent verbal and analytical skills
- Versatility and speed, both as a journalist and as a web producer who can post a story within seconds without much of a safety net
- Experience covering breaking news
Strong organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to work under pressure with assigned deadlines
