Due to continued growth and traction within the market, we are looking to hire a Senior Consultant to join our Private Equity Deal Origination team, based in Sydney.

The Private Equity Deal Origination team is EY Parthenon’s dedicated resource for originating transactions and deal opportunities for our stable of acquisitive private equity clients. We provide clients with unique and proprietary investment themes, deal ideas and insights, and value-accretive buy-side opportunities to assist in capital deployment.

Recognised as the stand-out market leader for unearthing proprietary, off-market investment opportunities to Private Equity dealmakers across Oceania, the team is a crucial lynchpin in EY Parthenon’s go-to-market strategy for Private Equity.

This role will provide the individual with the opportunity to:

  • Build external relationships with dealmakers across Private Equity funds

  • Develop skills to critically assess and evaluate Private Equity deals and investments

  • Be a key member of an experienced, market leading team, assisting our Private Equity clients to unlock proprietary investments

  • Build internal relationships with Directors, Partners and Senior Partners across the EY Parthenon business globally

Reporting to the Head of Origination, you will assist the team in driving success for our clients through:

  • Formulating and developing investment thematics suitable for Private Equity funds

  • Identifying leading companies and businesses for investment opportunities

  • Preparing market leading insights, intel and discussion materials for select Private Equity funds

  • Engaging with business founders, management teams, advisors and Private Equity funds to drive deal pipeline

Your key responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on target sectors to identify market trends and assess impact on future performance

  • Comprehensive industry screening and market mapping to identify attractive investment targets

  • Research and collate company details and information

  • Valuation analysis and financial modelling

  • Preparation and presentation of investment thematics, reports and research materials

  • Cultivate and build strong working relationships across EY Parthenon services lines and key Private Equity clients

Skills and attributes for success

  • Outstanding business acumen and commercially astute, ability to identify and assess industry and business specific risks and opportunities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to articulate ideas and viewpoints in a clear and concise manner

  • Strong research and financial analysis skills

  • Foundational understanding of corporate finance concepts and valuation techniques

  • Working knowledge of Private Equity industry

  • Self-starter with initiative, high drive and a bias for action

  • Collaborative mindset required to achieve success in smaller team settings

  • A bachelor’s degree 2:1 or above or equivalent

What we look for

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in Private Equity, having +3 years professional experience gained in either M&A advisory, management consulting, transaction advisory, equity or industry research.

We are also interested in hearing from candidates from data analytics or technology backgrounds who can improve the deal origination workflow and are interested in pivoting to a career in Private Equity.
