Senior Manager, Global Indirect Tax

Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Manager to join our Global Indirect Tax team, focusing on planning and advisory across regions. This role will be based in Bangalore and will play a key part in shaping global indirect tax strategy and supporting business initiatives.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and implement global indirect tax strategies for multiple lines of business (e.g. lodging, flights) including providing strategic recommendations to leadership

  • Analyze VAT/GST legislation across multiple jurisdictions, outlining the VAT implications of new business initiatives and tax requirements, and advise business partners

  • Review business contracts and provide recommendations on clauses to manage tax risks while supporting the business negotiation process

  • Identify indirect tax risks and develop solutions to mitigate these risks

  • Support with internal and external indirect tax audits

  • Manage various indirect tax projects, including coordinating and working with different members of the tax team in London, Seattle and Singapore, and cross functionally with finance, commercial, and legal teams, and external advisors;

  • Support business teams with the day-to-day questions related to indirect tax

  • Support the evolution of tax technology tools and enhancements to align with global indirect tax laws applicable to the travel industry, considering current capabilities within financial and tax compliance systems.

Experience and qualifications:

  • 10+ year experience in VAT/GST (and the like) across multiple jurisdictions in EMEA and/or APAC with a solid understanding of the tax complexities in the travel industry and digital economy

  • Preference for candidates with experience gained in multinational corporations or top-tier global advisory firms.

  • Strong indirect tax research skills, with the ability to apply insights to practical, real-world scenarios and business decisions.

  • Passion for travel and e-commerce technology platforms.

  • Pro-active, self-starter with a diligent, solutions-oriented mindset and attention to detail

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, quickly adapt to change, and demonstrate a desire to learn.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex indirect tax technical issues into simple concepts for business partners.

  • Proven record of collaborating and delivering results as part of a cross-functional team
