About the Role

As Head of Analytics and Data Science for e Bay Australia, you will lead the transformation of how we understand our customers, our business, and our market. This role blends deep local-market analytics leadership with a modern, AI-driven, customer-data-science approach aligned to global strategies. You will lead a high-performing Australian analytics team, driving end-to-end insights across all key customer, commercial and product areas of the business. You will serve as a trusted partner to the Australian Leadership Team - including the MD, CMO and CFO - while also playing an important role connecting AU insights to the International Markets Analytics Director and global Customer Data Science organization. This is a pivotal leadership opportunity for a hands-on, strategic thinker who thrives at the intersection of market-level insight, customer data science, and AI-enabled decision-making.

What You Will Accomplish

1.

Strategic Leadership & Influence:

  • Provide consultative, thought leadership to the Australian Leadership Team, shaping data-driven strategies that drive customer and business growth
  • Champion data-driven decision-making in Australia, using analytics to inform product, marketing, customer and commercial strategies
  • Represent Australia in global forums, contributing market insights to international analytics frameworks, models, and customer understanding initiatives

2.

Customer Insights & Data Science:

  • Lead advanced customer analytics programs, including segmentation, personalization, behavioral modelling, churn, lifetime value, and brand & experience diagnostics
  • Guide the development of innovative methodologies, including the use of AI/ML, LLMs, and experimentation to deepen customer understanding
  • Ensure insights are actionable, clearly framed, and translate to compelling recommendations for senior leaders

3. Growth, Product & Marketplace Analytics

  • Lead analytics across key initiatives that drive customer, product and business growth, including program performance, product experience, marketplace health and commercial outcomes
  • Partner with business, product and commercial leaders to evaluate performance, quantify impact, identify optimization opportunities and guide prioritization
  • Develop and evolve experimentation frameworks - including test/design, incrementality measurement and uplift modelling - to support innovation and continuous improvement across the Australian business

4.

Executive-Level Storytelling & Communication:

  • Build compelling narratives and executive-ready presentations explaining the "why" behind customer behavior, program performance, and science-led recommendations
  • Regularly brief AU and International senior leaders on customer health, growth opportunities, and market diagnostics

5.

Team Leadership & Capability Building:

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of analysts in Australia as well as leveraging a group of remote analysts in Bangalore
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, scientific rigour, fast iteration, and operational excellence
  • Optimize resourcing, prioritization, and stakeholder workflows to maximize value delivery

What You Will Bring

Technical & Analytical Expertise

  • Deep experience in customer analytics, marketplace analytics, or data science - including segmentation, predictive modelling, attribution, experimentation, and behavioral analysis
  • Strong grounding in statistical methods, incrementality testing, and scientific thinking
  • Experience evaluating ML models using rigorous metrics and frameworks is highly valued
  • Comfort guiding teams through advanced analytical approaches, even if not hands-on day-to-day
  • Technical literacy: SQL, statistical tools, Python/R familiarity, data visualization mastery; Excel expertise required

Leadership & Communication

  • Proven experience leading high-performing analytics teams and influencing cross-functional peers
  • Strong ability to communicate complex concepts in simple, compelling ways to senior and executive audiences
  • Demonstrated success working with C-level stakeholders and making data-driven recommendations at pace

Mindset & Ways of Working

  • Bias for action and comfort operating in ambiguity - a startup mindset within a global organization
  • Proactive, curious, deeply customer-focused, and driven to solve real problems using data

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (statistics, engineering, economics, computer science, data science) or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree or MBA preferred
  • 12+ years of analytics or data science experience, including 5+ years leading teams
