Business / Team Overview

Citi’s Corporate Strategy team supports the leadership of the Citi in the development, articulation, and ongoing implementation of its strategy. Our focus is on generating insightful analysis and generating results that help the Bank to deliver on our commitments to investors. We support senior executive business heads identifying growth and optimization opportunities and play a key role in managing the firm’s strategic risk.

The Corporate Strategy team is structured in alignment with the key business lines of Citi. The US Consumer Cards Strategy Lead Analyst supports Citi’s US consumer cards business, based in New York City and reports directly to the Strategy Head for US Consumer Cards. We act as trusted advisors to senior leadership on critical strategic priorities. We provide subject matter expertise in US payments and consumer credit cards and stay abreast of macroeconomic and industry trends.

In this role, you are part of a high performing team that drive interesting and high impact projects at a key point in Citi’s strategic journey. You will have visibility and exposure to senior management and develop your strategic toolkit and industry knowledge as a foundation for long-term career success in Financial Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects / workstreams across their lifecycle: structuring the problem, analyzing root causes, developing solutions, communicating project results and getting buy-in for change Structure and run strategic initiatives end-to-end. Design / build insightful strategic analyses of markets / businesses / clients / competitors
  • Synthesize key findings and recommendations
  • Acts as SME and develop relationships with senior leadership and support functions
  • Exercise sound judgement, and work autonomously with a limited level of direct supervision
  • Appropriately assess risk of potential recommendations / business decisions, considering the firm's reputation, its clients, and assets. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
  • Conduct in-depth research to support business strategies. Perform deep dives on the industry and identify trends to reassess strategies and opportunities
  • Financial modeling of new initiatives for business turn-around, working closely with Finance and M&A teams
  • Prepare high quality, executive ready presentations for senior management, Citigroup Board of Directors and key external stakeholders that conveys a clear story supported by data
  • Identify opportunities to add value beyond the scope of formal projects
  • Assume informal/formal leadership role within team, coaching peers and more junior team members in skill building

Qualifications:

  • 6-10 years’ experience in financial services or strategy consulting. Experience in payments, or consumer cards preferred
  • Excellent problem solving techniques / skills - strong hypothesis building, structuring and analytical skills
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, familiarity with reviewing and analyzing financial statements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - clear and concise messaging
  • Highly proficient in MS Power

Point and Excel:

  • Strong leadership presence; commands respect and will earn trust of senior leaders.
  • Collaborative work style within a high-performing team; effectively engages with partners across organizational boundaries/hierarchies. Effectively guides and influence key stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, enthusiasm for the financial services industry, and desire to learn more about Citi’s businesses
  • High degree of flexibility and comfort with ambiguous problems/situations

Education:

  • Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent experience. MBA preferred
