The Legal Support Officer is a non-attorney role responsible for providing legal support to the Citi Litigation and Regulatory Investigations team covering the Banking, Markets, Services, and Wealth lines of business, as well as Corporate matters. The team handles litigation and regulatory matters for these lines of business in North America, including securities class actions, antitrust actions, commercial disputes, and derivative actions in federal and state courts, in arbitrations before FINRA or the AAA, and in regulatory investigations and inquiries. The team also responds to grand jury subpoenas and third-party civil subpoenas concerning the relevant businesses.  Team members work closely with colleagues in other regions around the globe, with the U.S. Personal Banking Legal team and others on cross-border and cross-affiliate issues that require collaboration and coordination. This role in particular focuses primarily on intake management, which includes new matter inputting, routing and tracking.  It requires a pragmatic, proactive professional with the ability to work closely with others to provide overall support for the Citi Litigation team.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Citi Litigation and Regulatory Investigations team and others within the Global Legal Affairs and Compliance (GLAC) organization to identify, review, process, and track matters and assist with the administrative aspects of assigning new matters to individual attorneys and paralegals, as well as opening, maintaining, and searching those matters in our relevant matter management systems.
  • Maintain detailed records, create, prepare and process legal documentation under direction of counsel.
  • Responsible for legal support activities related to legal operations, litigation, discovery, billing and/or settlements.
  • Work closely with team managers, other senior management and legal peers to complete tasks assigned, including to execute, review, process and track legal documentation and complete varied work requests that may be complex in nature and have tight deadlines, including with respect to case management and regulatory and civil subpoenas. 
  • Prepare reports and conduct administrative legal work, including contributing to the collection of data for reports to regulators, third parties and internal stakeholders.
  • May be required to conduct independent research, while applying institutional knowledge and staying abreast of new and changing legal issues and industry initiatives.
  • Appropriately assess risk in decision making, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

  • 4 - 8 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with some experience working in a corporate legal department or law firm
  • Ability to manage complex documentation with organization and detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as project management skills
  • In-depth knowledge of legal customs and practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of the financial services industry

Education:

  • Bachelors/University degree or equivalent experience preferred.
