As the global leader in high-speed connectivity, Ciena is committed to a people-first approach. Our teams enjoy a culture focused on prioritizing a flexible work environment that empowers individual growth, well-being, and belonging. We’re a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.

Join Blue Planet, a division of Ciena, and help build software that powers the world’s most adaptive networks. As a Senior Software Developer, step into a hands-on role shaping scalable, cloud‑native solutions that support carrier‑class networks. Collaborate with global teams, work across modern backend and frontend stacks, and see your code directly enable customers to automate, visualize, and manage complex network environments.

How you will make an impact:

  • Design and implement high‑performing, modular software components for mission‑critical network and cloud applications

  • Develop and maintain robust backend services using modern Java frameworks, ensuring code quality, performance, and scalability

  • Build intuitive, responsive user interfaces and visualizations using TypeScript, JavaScript, and Angular to deliver an exceptional user experience

  • Own end‑to‑end development activities, including unit testing, debugging, documentation, and ongoing support for production systems

  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams across geographies to refine requirements, estimate work, and deliver features on schedule in an agile environment

  • Contribute to the architecture and evolution of inventory management solutions that integrate with cloud platforms and advanced network technologies

  • Champion clean code practices, design patterns, and continuous improvement within the team

The must haves:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience in a product or platform environment

  • Strong proficiency with Java 11+ and related frameworks such as Spring (Security, Data, MVC) and Spring Boot, plus build and test tools such as Maven and JUnit

  • Frontend development experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Angular 2+, HTML, CSS, and SVG, including unit and UI testing tools such as Protractor and Jasmine

  • Hands‑on experience with databases such as Neo4j (graph database), PostgreSQL, and TimescaleDB, including data modeling and query optimization

  • Experience implementing Single Sign‑On (SSO) using technologies such as Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), and OAuth2

  • Working knowledge of containerization and cloud technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud platform (preferably Amazon Web Services (AWS))

Nice to haves:

  • Experience integrating Elastic Search, business process management with Camunda using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN), Drools rule engine, or event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka

  • Knowledge of designing and implementing RESTful APIs using Spring MVC and related best practices for versioning, security, and observability

  • Background with inventory management systems such as Cramer, Granite, or Metasolv

  • Familiarity with Node.js and front‑end tooling such as Gulp, along with build and test automation pipelines

  • Exposure to networking domains such as Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Optical Transport Network (OTN), Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Gigabit‑capable Passive Optical Network (GPON), and Fiber to the Home (FTTH)

  • Understanding of Operations Support System (OSS) domains, including network and service topology modeling and device modeling concepts

  • Experience working in global, agile development teams, collaborating across time zones and functions
