Job Purpose and Impact:

The Location Food Safety Lead will ensure consistent application of food, safety, quality and regulatory policies and standards across the facility within a business or region. In this role, you will identify continuous improvement of food safety processes and systems, implement policies within the business, ensure audit compliance and customer specifications and quality issues.

  • Smet Chocolaterie has been a pioneer in the chocolate industry for more than five decades.

  • Kalmthout, Belgium.

  • Key Accountabilities

  • Performs prevention activities multiple facilities in a region for the location to ensure consistency and collaboration.

  • Drive the adoption of the Cargill chocolate standards for food safety and quality on site

  • Direct work with suppliers and external manufacturers.

  • Accountable for completion of facility audits and proactively anticipates risks and preventative actions.

  • Develop, implement and assess food safety processes and systems for facilities and drive continuous improvements.

  • Conduct root cause analysis for defects, nonconformities or other quality failures.

  • Ensure compliance with formal external and internal quality standards.

  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to peers within the team.

  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of food safety concepts, policies, hazard analysis and risk mitigation.
  • Proven ability to lead change initiatives and drive process improvements on site, ensuring priorities are properly defined and executed.
  • Fluency in Flemish and English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Operations experience.
  • Knowledge of French or German will be an asset.
  • Understanding of statistical process control programs.
  • Applies intermediate auditing and quality compliance skills to identify and manage risks/compliance.
  • Food safety and quality experience.
  • Experience interacting with state and federal regulators.
