Job Description:

We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager (TPM) to partner closely with the Vice President of Engineering to drive execution across complex, cross-functional initiatives in bps Technology Engineering Field. This role, reporting to VP Engineering, orchestrates the different Tiger Team programmes performing an intersection of software engineering, AI-driven initiatives and business / technology VP collaborators ensuring strategic tiger team initiatives are delivered with technical difficulty, predictability, and measurable business impact. The ideal candidate is highly technical, thrives in fast-paced environments, and can translate executive-level strategy into executable, well-governed programs across engineering teams. Why this role exists: The Technical Program Manager role exists to ensures that the Tiger Teams Engineering’s strategic priorities—particularly across software platforms, AI initiatives, and complex technical transformations—are translated into predictable, high-quality execution. As engineering programs scale in size and complexity, this role provides the structure, technical leadership, and cross-functional coordination required to deliver outcomes with clarity and confidence. By acting as the central connective point between engineering, product, data, and business customers leadership, the role improves delivery predictability, accelerates time-to-value for critical initiatives, reduces execution risk, and enables tiger teams to quickly deliver strategy and innovation initiatives. Ultimately, this role strengthens engineering effectiveness, operational subject area, and the organization’s ability to turn technical engineering investment into measurable business value for bp.

Executive Partnership & Strategic Alignment Act as a trusted partner to the Technology and Business VPs with requirements for Tiger Partnership and VP of Engineering, supporting to build and translating engineering strategy into prioritized, executable programs and roadmaps with clear outcomes.

End-to-End Program Leadership Lead large-scale, multi-quarter technical programs across software engineering, AI/ML, data, and platform teams, owning delivery from planning through execution and outcomes. Cross-Functional Coordination & Delivery Align and drive execution across engineering, product, data science, security, and operations in a matrix environment to ensu re integrated, high-quality delivery. Governance, Transparency & Customer Communication Establish program governance, operating cadences, and decision frameworks, providing clear transparency into progress, risks, dependencies, and trade-offs to executive collaborators. Operational Excellence & Risk Management Improve planning, estimation, and delivery predictability; handle budgets, metrics (OKRs/KPIs), and proactively identify and mitigate technical and organizational risks.

10 years of combined years of experience in product management, software engineering and/or program management • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Business or equivalent work experience.

  • Strong background in software engineering, with hands-on development experience or equivalent technical depth, and a deep understanding of modern development practices (Agile, DevOps, CI/CD).
  • Proven experience delivering AI/ML, LLM-based, or data-intensive systems into production, including familiarity with model training, AI-driven automation, and MLOps concepts.
  • Consistent track record to lead and deliver large, complex, cross-functional programs involving senior technical and business stakeholders.
  • Solid domain expertise in cloud and engineering systems, including experience with major platforms (Yalla, AWS, Azure), data pipelines, and system architecture.
  • Strong leadership capability in a matrix organisation, influencing outcomes without direct line authority.
  • Outstanding communication and customer management skills, with experience communicating technical concepts, trade -offs, and delivery status to executive leadership.
  • Exceptional planning and organization skills able to organize, prioritize and deliver work under a constantly evolving environment.

Differential/Desirable:

  • Accomplished Experience and certified in Program Management: (i.e PMP, PMI-ACP, PSPO, SAFe)

  • Master`s degree or MBA in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Business or Equivalent

  • Commercially-oriented with deep focus on unlocking customer and business value through digital technology

  • Growth-minded with thirst to learn and apply emerging technologies for business value

  • Digitally enabled and data driven

  • Masters' backlog management and prioritization across sophisticated global portfolios

  • Masters Programme Management (Agile, Waterfall, hybrid) across complex global portfolios

  • Creates strategic partnerships, leads risks, unblocks and handles customer concern paths for effective process

  • Develops Capabilities across big scale organization – unlocks learning, development and knowledge management at scale across global organizations •Drives Change and Innovation and becomes comfortable with uncertainty and ever-changing environment
