Staff Mixed Signal Design Engineer

About the Role:

As a Staff Mixed Signal Design Engineer in the MEMs ASIC team, you will be working on the state-of-the-art ASICs read-out channel for MEMs based accelerometers and gyroscopes. You will involve in the definitions, performance specifications and features of our MEMs inertial measurement components. You will lead and involve in the architectural design of a part or a complete signal of the read-out channel, from sensor to bits.

You will involve in the implementation of the IPs including CSA, switched-cap filters, ultra low power building blocks such as signal buffers, ADCs, DACs, PLLs, charge-pump, and other power management IPs (linear and switched-regulators). You will provide guidance to the layout team, and responsible for mixed-signal verifications, at the IP level, and at the chip level.

You will involve in the evaluation of the ICs, and support the Product and Test engineering groups to release the part to sales. You will also involve in FA supports for released parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the architectural definition and design of complex mixed-signal ICs from concept through production release

  • Drive technical decisions for mixed-signal block integration, considering system-level tradeoffs and performance requirements

  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers and influence design approaches across teams

  • Make critical architectural tradeoffs based on parameters such as current vs. voltage mode, performance targets, and power requirements

  • Develop comprehensive verification strategies for mixed-signal systems and lead advanced laboratory testing

  • Represent the design team to other functions and influence technical approaches without direct authority

  • Contribute to the development of new theories and methods in mixed-signal design and drive continuous improvement in design methodologies

  • Lead complex projects with significant business impact, often directing work of others without formal management responsibilities

Must Have Skills

  • Strategic Design: Make critical architectural decisions that optimize performance, power, and area across mixed-signal boundaries

  • Performance Optimization: Implement advanced techniques for optimizing circuits across multiple parameters including noise, timing, and power consumption

  • Verification Strategy: Develop comprehensive verification approaches for complex mixed-signal systems

  • EDA Tool Mastery: Demonstrate mastery of industry-standard EDA tools including SPICE, MATLAB, and Cadence Design Suite

  • Advanced Simulation: Apply sophisticated simulation techniques to predict and optimize circuit performance under various conditions

  • Physical Implementation: Guide physical design teams on implementation strategies to meet performance requirements

  • Design Innovation: Contribute to the development of new theories and methods in mixed-signal IC design

  • A solid knowledge of MEMs ASIC design (accelerometer and/or gyro) is required

  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems in MEMs sensors is a plus

  • Experienced in designing building blocks such as high-performance op-amps, comparators (ultra-low power, ultra-low noise), switched-cap filter designs (bandpass, lowpass), low-power band gaps

  • Solid device physics (at the transistor level) is required

  • Experienced in ULP SAR, and sigma-delta ADC design is required

  • Experienced in HV designs such as charge pump using DMOS. Familiar with techniques for device protections in HV design

  • Familiar with analog PLL design (charge pump based), including building blocks such as VCOs, and some fundamental digital designs in PLL

  • Knowledge of switched-cap circuits, analysis of switched-cap noise performance is required

  • Fluent in transistor level design of mixed-signal circuits is a must

  • Familiar with simulation techniques of switched-cap circuits to verify performance (noise, transfer function)

  • Fundamental understanding of signal processing is required.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • MSEE with 5-7 years of relevant mixed-signal design experience

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully taking multiple products from concept through production release
