Trade Compliance Specialist (Import/Export)

What You Will Do

In this vital role, you will be responsible for the integration of policy and operational execution for imports and exports across the entire Amgen organization. You will ensure compliance with Trade Compliance controls and global standards, supporting regional and global execution with a high level of technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operational import and export activities in alignment with Amgen's Trade Compliance policies and applicable customs and trade sanctions regulations.

  • Provide Trade Compliance guidance and support to key stakeholders across the organization.

  • Act as an escalation point within the Global Trade & Customs Excellence team to resolve complex trade matters.

  • Monitor, analyze, and interpret customs and export control regulations to support compliant operations.

  • Support customs-related audits and inspections.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support planning initiatives and ensure Trade Compliance integration.

  • Manage export controls, including the acquisition of relevant export permits and licenses.

  • Interface with Customs authorities and third parties to address customs issues and avoid operational delays.

  • Collect, analyze, and report key transactional performance metrics.

  • Oversee outsourced brokerage service providers to ensure service performance and compliance.

  • Provide oversight of Customs Warehouse activities and Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification.

  • Contribute to the development, documentation, and periodic updates of Trade Compliance processes and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Trade Compliance experience OR

  • Associate’s degree and 8 years of Trade Compliance experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Trade Compliance experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 2 years of Trade Compliance experience OR

  • Doctorate degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed US Customs Broker

  • Understanding of International Customs and World Trade Organization (WTO) regulations

Proficiencies

  • Strong experience working directly with customs brokers, ensuring accurate and compliant execution of customs activities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Customs regulations and practical application in operational environments.

  • Proficiency in key customs processes, including HTS/HS classification,valuation methodologies, and country of origin determination.

  • Experience handling complex customs matters and supporting regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to build strong cross-functional and cross-regional partnerships at all organizational levels.

  • Continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on process optimization and operational excellence.

  • Strong communication, facilitation, collaboration, and executive presentation skills.

  • Knowledge of GMP and GDP requirements.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Experience or education in international trade law.
