About GMNS Product Team
As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the GMNS Product team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to support every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. The American Express Network enables over $1.6 trillion in annual spend, serving our Issuers and Acquirers in more than 170 markets worldwide.
We are driving a strategic, multi-year Enterprise Payments program to bring all payments together into a centre of excellence to drive operational excellence for payment execution, enable innovative payment products, services, and capabilities to be built effectively and efficiently, support our BU strategies more closely, and deliver on our customers’ evolving payment needs.
About the Role
The Director Enterprise Payments Product Development is an exciting role, responsible for building modern, scalable enterprise payment capabilities and ensuring high quality predictable delivery across global markets. This role sits within the Enterprise Payments Centre of Excellence and partners closely with Product Management Architecture Engineering Operations and Market teams to translate product strategy into robust technical capabilities and platform solutions.
This leader will be accountable for shaping how Enterprise Payments capabilities are designed, built, and delivered, while driving modernization of legacy payment flows and scaling bank based money movement solutions globally and transforming how payment platforms are developed at American Express.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and grow a high performing product development organization responsible for delivering enterprise grade payment capabilities across Bill Payments bank, Account Verification and Bank Network based money movement

Translate enterprise and product management strategies into clear capability roadmaps, technical delivery plans and executable backlogs aligned to priorities

Lead discovery and technical solutioning for new payment flows, bank integrations and money movement capabilities supporting critical customer and business journeys

Own Product delivery outcomes for Enterprise Payments products including quality reliability scalability and time to market across global releases

Define and refine capabilities features user stories and acceptance criteria ensuring solutions meet functional regulatory operational and market needs

Balance global platform standardization with market specific requirements ensuring scalable solutions while meeting regulatory and local banking needs

Drive modernization of payment capabilities including migration from legacy solutions to resilient scalable and cloud enabled platforms where applicable

Establish and monitor delivery and performance metrics to improve predictability throughput quality and incremental value delivery

Champion modern product development and delivery practices including agile ways of working iterative value delivery and strong collaboration across teams
Requirements/Qualifications
-
8+ years of leadership experience leading Product Development, Product Management, Platform Engineering or a similar role.

Deep interest in payments and financial technology with experience or exposure to Bill Pay, A2A payments, ACH, RTP, wires or bank integrations strongly preferred

Proven experience building and leading high performing teams across multiple locations and working effectively in a global enterprise environment

Demonstrated ability to deliver enterprise platforms or shared services that support multiple business units and markets

Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity make trade-offs and drive execution at scale

Ability to influence and partner effectively with senior leaders across Product Management Technology Operations and Business teams

Experience driving modernization initiatives and adopting new ways of working including scaled agile delivery models

Bachelor’s or Masters’ Degree in Engineering, Product, Business or related field.
