An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Amazon’s Pan EU Indirect Tax Planning and Advisory team, reporting to the Indirect Tax Director. This is a position at the senior manager level, based in London but which is likely to require regular travel to other European locations. The role is focused primarily on Amazon’s Retail business, but may be required to support on our operations/logistics sector and also international expansions.
The successful candidate would provide business partnering to senior level colleagues in business units and also key partner teams such as finance, legal, accounting and tech. Typical issues are likely to include new product/business launches, responding to legislative/case law changes and assisting with restructures and re-orgs. In addition, there is likely to be significant input and leadership into tax authority audits, queries and investigations.
The role will primarily focus on VAT, but will also be required to provide strategic leadership on the non-VAT indirect tax portfolio. Typically this includes items such as: excise duties; sugar taxes and plastic packaging taxes. We require excellent technical skills as regards VAT, for the other taxes a working familiarity is very useful combined with the ability to effectively manage external advisers as required. The successful candidate should also be comfortable and familiar with use of process and technology in tax matters, including the use of emerging technologies such as generative AI. No coding experience is required, but an ability to work with such tools is essential.
This role will provide an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of indirect taxes with a business which is dynamic and fast moving. There will be regular interaction with senior business leaders, your ideas will be essential and your opinion relied upon.
About the team
Led by a director, the team provides tax planning/advisory support across the European retail and operations businesses along with supporting international expansions. The team is based primarily in London and Luxembourg but with team members in numerous European cities.
Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years experience in global law/accounting practice or blue chip global business
