We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to define the future of agent orchestration at Kiro. Working on Kiro Web (kiro.dev), you'll lead the evolution from a single-product interface into a comprehensive agent orchestration platform. You'll solve fundamental challenges that currently limit orchestration to senior+ engineers: making agent swarms visible and debuggable, managing context at scale, and balancing control with autonomy.
You will work with an exceptional team including internal Kiro SMEs like Al Harris to solve hard problems and learn new skills. Our research with internal and external power users who've achieved 10x productivity gains through agent orchestration gives us a unique advantage—you'll embed proven practices into Kiro's architecture. In addition to the technical challenges of agent orchestration, you'll learn how to build a service that meets AWS's high bar for availability, scalability, and security.
You'll have a direct line to our customers' experience and a direct means to improving it. On a daily basis, you'll work with teammates to review each other's code, mentor and be mentored. You'll have an opportunity to lead from day one—from leading the agent orchestration architecture, to driving technical processes, to selecting frameworks and patterns, to teaching and learning from your teammates.
- Key job responsibilities
- Define agent orchestration architecture
- Design and implement the technical patterns and infrastructure for multi-agent coordination, agent swarms, and tiered agent architectures (main agents, sub-agents, autonomous agents)
- Build orchestration visibility systems
- Create mechanisms that make agent behavior observable, debuggable, and controllable at scale
- Solve context management at scale
- Architect solutions for context sharing and management across agent swarms and multi-agent workflows
- Enable cross-product agent coordination
- Build the orchestration layer connecting agents across Kiro CLI, IDE, KAA, and future products
- Translate power user insights into architecture
- Embed proven orchestration practices from our research into scalable technical systems
- Lead platform rearchitecture
- Evolve Kiro Web to support individual, team, and enterprise orchestration use cases
- Establish engineering excellence
- Set technical standards through hands-on coding and architectural reviews
- Drive strategic decisions
- Collaborate with VP Deepak and influence orchestration strategy across the Kiro organization
- Scale orchestration accessibility
- Make sophisticated multi-agent workflows achievable for developers beyond the senior+ elite
About the team
AI is transforming software development, and agent orchestration represents the next frontier. As AI agents proliferate across the industry, the critical challenge is no longer building individual agents—it's orchestrating them effectively. AWS is at the forefront of this transformation, and we're building the technical foundation that will make sophisticated multi-agent workflows accessible to developers worldwide.
Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 12+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 12+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
Preferred Qualifications
- 12+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- Experience with AI/ML agent systems, multi-agent coordination, or workflow orchestration patterns
- Background in building observability, debugging, or monitoring systems for complex distributed workflows
- Track record of solving intrinsically hard problems in areas like context management, state coordination, or autonomous system control
- Experience working with user research to inform technical architecture decisions
- Contributions to open-source projects in agent frameworks, orchestration tools, or developer platforms
- Experience scaling platforms from individual users to team and enterprise deployments
