What will you own?
You will own a suite of products that drive profitability decisions for over 100 businesses on a day-to-day basis, directly impacting their pricing and selection strategies. These solutions leverage ML-based models to estimate the shipping cost of billions of products with high accuracy, benchmarked against established ground truth metrics. Operating at massive scale with billions of transactions processed daily, the systems demand non-trivial engineering, requiring deep business understanding and strong technical acumen. You will collaborate with stakeholders and product managers to identify opportunities for improving accuracy, expanding the solution across multiple geographies, and defining the technical roadmap. Additionally, you will lead and manage a high-performing team of 6–8 engineers, driving progress toward our three-year architectural vision.

We, Transportation Financial Systems (TFS) are responsible for building technologies that support financial aspects for Amazon transportation. Amazon’s transportation systems get millions of packages to customers worldwide faster and cheaper while providing world-class customer experience – from checkout to shipment tracking to delivery. Our software systems include services that handle tens of thousands or requests per second and make decisions to pay billions of dollars a year and ensure that transportation's liabilities and revenues are correctly accounted and paid to our partners timely. With rapid expansion into new geographies and production solutions, we have an opportunity to build software that scales not only with volume but also with the business models. TFS is 100+ tech team across eight different platforms. We deal with problems of scale. Billions of dollars of spend is automated through our platforms and pipelines. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with our global product teams and customers across the world and other tech teams in the organization as we raise the bar in delivering innovation.

Key job responsibilities

• What will you own?

• You will own managing a team of 6-8 engineers within Transport Financial System. Your primary responsibility is to manage diverse initiatives and enable your team to deliver long term technical solves

• You will own roadmap execution for your tech area, in close collaboration with Product Management and customer

• You will implement and maintain shipping cost predictions and their ground truth at Amazon scale, directly influencing company-wide decisions while managing the operational load of these systems.

• You are responsible for driving innovation and next-gen solution vision for your area in collaboration with Sr SDEs and PEs

• You are responsible for managing growth of SDEs reporting to you through structured performance management and career growth plan

• What interesting engineering problem will you solve?

• You will own building advanced ML modelling techniques used to generate shipping cost predictions at scale.

• You will own building a high scalable system that can handle billions of transactions from carrier manifests and invoices delivering logistic services

• What large scale program opportunities you will have?

• You will own the partner relationship with our stakeholders and business partners to influence the roadmap, and deliver as per agreed upon plan

• You will work closely with principal product managers and business leaders in prioritizing work and ensure timely and quality delivery of those.

• You will ensure open issues and hotly debated topics are surfaced in right internal/external forums to safeguard your team's roadmap to deliver most important things for the customers

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of engineering experience
• 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
