This is Adyen
Adyen provides payments, data, and financial products in a single solution for customers like Meta, Uber, H&M, and Microsoft - making us the financial technology platform of choice. At Adyen, everything we do is engineered for ambition.
For our teams, we create an environment with opportunities for our people to succeed, backed by the culture and support to ensure they are enabled to truly own their careers. We are motivated individuals who tackle unique technical challenges at scale and solve them as a team. Together, we deliver innovative and ethical solutions that help businesses achieve their ambitions faster.
About the Team
At Adyen, security is paramount. Our **Applied Security Engineering (ASE)**team was created to bring a unified direction for our core security capabilities across Adyen’s vast codebase. We combine deep security expertise with the practical needs of our developers to build, offer, and enforce a collection of tools and frameworks essential to our security posture. Our mission is to make the secure way, the easiest way.
ASE is changing the narrative of Security at Adyen by reducing security friction. We abstract away the complexity of security standards, providing intuitive and frictionless tools that allow our product teams to build inherently secure financial technology without being slowed down by security bottlenecks.
What You’ll Do
-
Be a Builder, Not Just a User: You will design and implement the "Secure Defaults" for the entire Adyen platform, moving beyond just using security tools to actually building the frameworks that power them.
-
Deliver Horizontal Impact: Lead complex technical projects like platform-wide cryptographic standardization.
-
Architect for Scale: Identify and improve parts of our high-concurrency platform (thousands of transactions per second) to make it more robust, scalable, and available.
-
Collaborate Globally: Partner with our security subject matter experts in Amsterdam and Chicago and product developers worldwide to turn security requirements into scalable, automated reality.
-
Own the Lifecycle: Manage projects from inception through implementation, testing, and production launch, ensuring active adoption across engineering teams.
Who You Are
- Experienced Java Engineer: You have 3-8 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer with strong object-oriented design and coding skills in Java.
Security Minded Builder:
You have a demonstrable passion for security and a strong understanding of security basics which could include (but are not limited to): access controls, authentication cryptography, or building internal frameworks (SDKs, tools) that enable other teams to easily ship secure code by default**. You keep up-to-date on the latest practices, like** OWASP, and actively seek them in your domain. You are also able to identify security risks in your own systems and that of others through processes like threat modelling.
-
Distributed Systems Thinker: You are familiar with complex, large-scale distributed systems and understand how to build for resiliency and high availability.
-
Collaborative Skeptic: You have technical opinions but are willing to change them; you possess a healthy skepticism paired with a collaborative, proactive mindset.
-
Strong Owner: You have a sense of autonomy and responsibility, capable of driving projects forward independently in a fast-paced environment.
Our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commitments
Our unique approach is a product of our diverse perspectives. This diversity of backgrounds and cultures is essential in helping us maintain our momentum. Hi Everyone, I’ve been working in a service-based company for the past 9 years. Recently, when I started looking for a switch, I realized that the expectations of product-based companies are quite different from the kind of work I’ve been doing. I’ve already faced a few rejections in coding assessments, mainly around OOP concepts and LeetCode medium–level problems. This made me restart my preparation more seriously and focus on strengthening my fundamentals. If anyone here is currently worki
