Summary:

We are looking for a highly hands-on, core Oracle DBA with deep experience in mission-critical, always-on digital platforms for Indian BFSI clients. The role involves managing large-scale Oracle databases powering live digital channels (Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, Payments, APIs, Middleware Microservices integrations) with stringent availability and resilience requirements:

  • RPO: 0
  • RTO: 1 hour
    The DBA will be responsible for end-to-end database operations, zero-downtime patching, performance engineering, and resilience/security optimization across production and lower environments.

Job Title

  • Senior Oracle Database Administrator (Hands-on
  • Mission-Critical Digital Banking Platforms)

Roles & Responsibilities:

    1. Oracle DBA – Hands-On Operations (Core Responsibility)
  • End-to-end administration of Oracle databases (19c and above) in high-volume, real-time transaction environments

  • Ownership of Production, DR, UAT, SIT, Pre-Prod and DEV database environments

  • Perform day-to-day DBA activities including:

  • Database provisioning, upgrades, migrations

    • Backup, restore and recovery strategy implementation
    • Tablespace, storage, and capacity management
    • User access, roles, privileges and auditing
    1. High Availability, DR & Always ON Architecture
  • Operate and manage Always ON Oracle setups including:

  • Oracle RAC

    • Oracle Data Guard (Active Physical Standby)
  • Ensure zero data loss (RPO 0) and RTO 1 hour during incidents

  • Replication monitoring, diagnosis, troubleshooting in case of any issues

  • Participate actively in:

  • DR drills

    • Switchover failover exercises
  • Hands on working experience of DC/DR switch over and back

    • Post-incident root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Ensure continuous availability for digital banking channels without customer disruption

    1. Zero-Downtime Patching & Maintenance (Critical Requirement)
  • Mandatory hands-on experience in zero-downtime , near-zero-downtime patching for:

  • Oracle Database

    • Grid Infrastructure
  • Perform patching in:

  • Production environment with no customer impact

    • Lower environments during off-business hours
  • Strong experience with:

  • Rolling patching in RAC

    • Standby-first patching strategy using Data Guard
  • Ensure compliance with banking security and regulatory requirements during patching

Performance Engineering & Optimization:

  • Proactively monitor database performance for high-TPS digital workloads

  • Perform:

  • SQL tuning and optimization (AWR, ASH, SQL Trace)

    • Index optimization
    • Execution plan analysis
  • Work closely with application teams to:

  • Review and optimize complex SQL queries

    • Identify performance bottlenecks originating from application design
  • Recommend and implement:

  • Database configuration tuning

    • Memory (SGA PGA) and I O optimization
  • Ensure performance meets SLA, throughput, and latency requirements of digital channels

    1. Security, Compliance & Resilience
  • Ensure databases meet banking-grade security standards, including:

  • Data encryption (TDE)

    • Secure access controls
    • Auditing and logging
  • Align database configurations with:

  • Security policies

    • Regulatory and audit requirements (RBI internal audits)
  • Ensure resilience against:

  • Hardware failures

    • Site failures
    • Application surges during peak business hours

Production Support & Stakeholder Management:

  • Act as L3 DBA support for production incidents
  • Participate in:
  • Major incident calls
    • Change management (CAB)
    • Release and deployment planning
  • Work closely with:
  • Application teams
    • Infrastructure & storage teams
    • Cybersecurity and audit teams
  • Maintain clear documentation and operational runbooks

Professional & Technical Skills:

    1. 8-10+ years of hands-on Oracle DBA experience
  • Strong expertise in:
  • Oracle 19c , 21c
    • Oracle RAC
    • Oracle Data Guard
    1. Proven experience managing live digital banking / financial services applications
  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • 99.99 availability environments
    • RPO 0, RTO 1 hour
  1. Deep hands-on experience in:
  • Zero-downtime , rolling patching
    • Performance tuning and SQL optimization
  1. Strong understanding of Indian BFSI operational constraints
  • Good to Have

Experience in:

  • Exadata environments
    • Large-scale payment platforms (UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS)
  • Exposure to:
  • Middleware Microservices-heavy architectures
    • API-driven digital platforms
  • Scripting knowledge (Shell, SQL, PL SQL, Linux)
  • Location & Work Model (Non-Negotiable)
  • Candidate must be based in Mumbai
  • Work from client premises (onsite)
  • Availability for:
  • Off-business hour activities as required by the project
    • Production deployments
    • DR drills and critical incident support
  • What This Role Is NOT
  • Not a coordination-only or vendor-management role
  • Not suitable for candidates with only cloud-managed DB exposure
    Please note: Pure hands-on Oracle depth is mandatory

  • The candidate should have minimum 15 years of experience in Oracle Database Administration (DBA).
  • This position is based at our Mumbai office.
