Your role and responsibilities

Are you ready to engineer a more sustainable future? Join our Electrification Distribution Solutions team in Dalmine (BG) for a transformative thesis project where your ideas will have a tangible impact.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop, within the ABB team, your thesis project based on Sustainability.

In the era of environmental sustainability, ABB is a major player in energy efficiency and CO2eq emissions reduction. It is therefore necessary to ask about potential opportunities on how our products and processes can contribute to and influence change.

This role is contributing to the Electrification Distributions Solutions located in Dalmine (BG).

You will be mainly accountable for:

The thesis project aims to improve process efficiency and reduce environmental impact by integrating design modifications into established product lines. You will balance cost-effectiveness, environmental sustainability, technical feasibility, and quality assurance throughout the project.

You will analyze real products, processes, and the entire current supply chain by acting on the following levers:

  • Materials used
  • Heat treatments
  • Surface coating treatments
  • Transportation and packaging of purchasing components
  • Transport and packaging of the finished product
  • Internal assembly and testing process
  • Make or buy analysis
  • Supply chain process

To achieve these objectives, you will work in close collaboration with R&D, Sustainability, Industrialization, and Supply Chain Management (SCM) teams. Key activities include conducting research and analysis on current processes to identify improvement opportunities, developing design modification proposals, executing comprehensive validation testing protocols to ensure production readiness, and collaborating cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to validate technical and economic viability.

You will focus on reducing CO2eq. impact calculated with specific tools and preparation of implementation recommendations, along with final thesis documentation.

Qualifications for the role

  • You are currently enrolled in a degree program in Industrial Engineering (specialization in Chemical, Management, Environmental, Materials, or Mechanical engineering).
  • Sustainability Knowledge: basic knowledge of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies and Sima Pro software is considered a plus.
  • You possess an enhanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Package with a strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Languages: You are fluent in both Italian and English (written and spoken).
  • You are a proactive individual, passionate about teamwork and eager to contribute with innovative ideas.
