Wise is looking for a seasoned marketing leader to come join us as our first Growth Marketing Country Lead for Japan. This role is pivotal in owning Wise's growth strategy in Japan, working with product teams on launches and regional initiatives, managing multi-channel campaigns, and leading and developing a team of Growth Marketers and Social Media Marketers. This role will be based in our Tokyo office.
Your Mission:

Getting to a very strong understanding of Japan's market customers (who they are, what needs they have and their pain points).

Getting to a strong understanding of the current product USPs and features, country context including compliance and regulation (both product and marketing), future roadmap and usage by existing customer segments, with support from Banking Lead and Product Manager.

Monitoring and being accountable for key performance metrics with Product such as NPS, retention, stickiness, onboarding funnel, revenue.

Develop a strategic marketing plan to drive growth across the funnel, taking into account target audience, messaging and positioning, media and creative strategy, and seasonality in Japan.

Work closely with marketing channel leads (Paid, Organic, Invite, CRM) to align and optimize marketing spend budget based on the economics and broad positioning / audience of Wise in the market and facilitate iterate creative / content / keywords / landing pages / new channels activities.

Spearhead the groundwork and end-to-end execution of localized marketing partnerships as a primary engine for market-specific growth.

Nurture strong relationships with local Japan stakeholders, including but not limited to, banking, finance, product, and operational teams
You'll be a great fit for this role if:

Hold Japanese citizenship, Permanent Residency or Child/Spouse of Japanese Citizen Visa (please note we cannot support some Visas for this role)

You have10 - 15 years of experience in driving successful marketing campaigns and initiatives across diverse channels, ideally in a growth marketing or country expansion capacity
-
Possess a deep, nuanced understanding of the Japan media landscape, including channels, agencies, content strategy and ads regulatory.

Significant experience with hands-on execution of marketing campaigns in Japan markets, coupled with a deep understanding of local nuances.

Proven capability in leading and mentoring successful marketing teams, including developing a high performing team of growth marketers and social media team members

Expert understanding of customer acquisition and retention, performance marketing, and brand growth strategies
-
Experience in coordinating across marketing channels, operations, and product teams, especially in environments without established local teams, to influence marketing directions and align campaigns with product roadmaps and regional initiatives.

Ability to build and maintain relationships with local partners, vendors, and community stakeholders
-
Possess exceptional structured communication skills and advanced business-level English proficiency, with a demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous local market insights into high-clarity strategic playbooks for global leadership.

Proven ability to navigate high-ambiguity environments and relentlessly optimize difficult initiatives toward measurable success.

Have a deep-seated bias for action and a track record of hands-on execution.

Demonstrate exceptional structural intellectual rigor and clarity of thought in both Japanese and English.

Have the interpersonal dexterity to serve as a "cultural bridge," effectively managing and influencing a diverse stakeholder map that ranges from conservative Japanese corporate partners to fast-paced global leadership teams.

Possess extensive experience in full-funnel orchestration and fiscal oversight, having successfully managed annual media budgets exceeding 200M JPY.
