Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
The Waymo Mapping team's goal is to build a high resolution map of the world to support safe autonomous driving. We work on creating the map using a combination of automatic and manual techniques and build the infrastructure to store, process, and distribute the map. Our team collaborates with several other Waymo teams that consume map data.
As a member of the tooling team, you work on the internal labeling tools, infrastructure, and metrics that support our operation. You work closely with stakeholders across product, UX, mapping operations, and engineering.
You will:
-
Help build and evolve mission-critical labeling tools and systems powering mapping at Waymo.
-
Collaborate with Mapping Operations, UX, and other engineering teams to deliver excellent tools for internal use.
-
Work with ML teams to integrate machine learning models into our workflow to drastically improve scalability.
-
Scale systems to map the world's cities, enabling Waymo's rapid expansion into new and complex urban environments.
-
Leverage Google's ecosystem to build, deploy, and scale backend services that process vast amounts of mapping data.
-
Integrate industry-leading visualization solutions to serve user needs
You have:
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
-
3 years of experience in full stack development, across back-end such as C++, Python, Java/Kotlin, GO, and front-end experience including TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS or equivalent.
-
Willingness to own problems end-to-end, from diving into a new and complex domain to and working on various parts of the system
-
A passion for good software engineering
We prefer:
-
Hands-on experience working with Angular/Typescript and/or React.
-
Hands-on experience working with geographical data.
