From e Commerce and retail operations to emerging business models and international expansion, our team ensures compliance, mitigates risk, and helps unlock enterprise value. We lead with insight, technology, and strategic thinking to shape tax outcomes that support business growth and transformation.

What you'll do...
As a Director within Indirect Tax, you will lead one of the following key functional areas, owning enterprise-wide responsibilities and delivering value through strategic oversight, innovation, and collaboration:

  • Global Indirect Tax Strategy & Planning

  • Lead enterprise tax planning efforts related to global indirect tax, including VAT, GST, and sales/use tax across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Provide proactive guidance on business initiatives, M&A, and supply chain changes, influencing decisions to optimize tax outcomes.

  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and international teams to manage cross-border complexity and drive global alignment.

  • Indirect Tax Compliance

  • Provide strategic leadership for Walmart's transaction tax compliance footprint, including oversight of return preparation, filing, and payment processes across hundreds of jurisdictions.

  • Partner with Tax Technology to modernize tax systems, automate workflows, and ensure accurate tax data across upstream and downstream systems.

  • Establish and monitor KPIs, controls, and quality assurance procedures to reduce risk and maintain compliance excellence in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Indirect Audit & Controversy

  • Oversee audit defense strategies and manage indirect tax controversies across federal, state, local, and international jurisdictions.

  • Drive risk mitigation strategies, improve audit readiness, and establish strong external relationships with tax authorities.

  • Lead data analytics and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen documentation, transparency, and issue resolution processes.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in indirect tax, including leadership roles in a complex, multinational, or multistate environment.

  • Deep subject matter expertise in areas such as VAT/GST, sales and use tax, or indirect tax audit/controversy.

  • Proven success leading high-performing teams and managing complex cross-functional initiatives.

  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across levels and geographies.

  • Advanced degree in Taxation, JD, CPA, or equivalent certification preferred.

  • Fluency with tax technology and data tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI, SQL) is a strong plus.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and 5 years' experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or related
area OR 7 years' experience in accounting, income tax compliance, payroll tax, or related area.
3 years' supervisory experience.
