Job Description

Open Visa Net (OVN) is the next generation of Visas core payment service—Visa Net. OVN leverages best‑in‑class technology components to deliver a highly scalable, secure, cost‑effective, and distributed application on commodity hardware. As one of Visas key strategic initiatives, OVN will enable Visa to support in‑country and global processing solutions while transitioning away from proprietary hardware systems. Realizing the OVN vision requires an exceptional team of software engineers, security specialists, DevOps engineers, payment experts, infrastructure architects, and business analysts.

Delivered using Agile practices aligned with SAFe, the Technical Product Owner (TPO) will own assigned Visa Net capability areas for implementation in OVN. You will collaborate with Visa business teams and technical SMEs to document requirements, define Features and Stories, manage the Team Backlog, and lead product delivery.

What You will Do (Essential Functions):

  • Requirements Definition — Define and document detailed functional and non‑functional requirements for OVN, spanning current Visa Net payment capabilities, interfaces to other Visa systems, and requirements for OVN technical components.
  • Technical Analysis — Partner with Visa SMEs and Analysts to articulate existing system behavior at a detailed technical level through analysis of specifications and code.
  • Backlog Management — Write Features and Stories own and continuously refine the prioritized Team Backlog.
  • Strategic Alignment — Engage Visa product teams and stakeholders to ensure OVN capabilities align with Visas product strategy.
  • Requirements Quality — Collaborate with Architects and development teams to ensure requirements are accurate, complete, testable, and consumable by diverse users.
  • Quality Assurance Collaboration — Partner with QA to co‑create testing artifacts and traceability to acceptance criteria.
  • Team Coaching — Coach development teams on Visa switching, clearing, and settlement processing as it relates to OVN requirements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement — Participate in presentations and discussions with clients and stakeholders to articulate OVN capabilities and value.
  • Leadership Collaboration — Consult with leadership to align expectations, surface risks, and prioritize deliverables.
  • Agile Ceremonies — Lead Team Demos and contribute to Retrospectives, driving continuous improvement.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree, Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a Developer or Tester of enterprise‑scale core systems.

Technical Product Ownership:

  • Proven track record producing high‑quality requirements, documentation, and user stories.
  • Experience delivering large‑scale systems in an agile environment hands‑on with agile tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Effective collaborator with SMEs, system architects, and senior engineers at detailed technology levels.

Domain Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of Visa systems or applications.
  • Significant knowledge of the payments business and the products/services provided by Visa Net.

Generative AI Expertise:

  • Demonstrated expertise applying GenAI tools and techniques (e.g., LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG workflows) to accelerate creation of product backlogs, user stories, acceptance criteria, and early prototypes.
  • Strong understanding of GenAI concepts and architectures ability to identify high‑value AI opportunities, assess technical feasibility, and inform long‑term product roadmaps using data‑driven insights.
  • Professional experience in ideation and incubation that led to shipping and supporting products in Production is a plus.

  • Capable of forming and advocating for an independent viewpoint.
  • Demonstrated influencing, negotiating, and communication skills.

  • Strategic thinking stays ahead of the state‑of‑the‑art technically, operationally, and professionally.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Certified SAFe Product Owner.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner.
