The Opportunity:

We are looking for versatile curious and energetic Backend Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer you will be an integral part of a multi functional development team inventing designing building and testing backend software services that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of Visas powerful payment technology you will see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.

The Work Itself:

• Design and build backend code and distributed systems that touch nearly 40 percent of the worlds population while influencing Visas internal standards for scalability security performance and reusability
• Collaborate cross functionally to create design artifacts and develop best in class backend software solutions across multiple Visa technical offerings
• Actively contribute to product quality improvements service reliability and new business flows within diverse Agile squads
• Develop robust scalable backend services supporting end user merchants Business to Business and Business to Government payment solutions
• Leverage modern technologies including C plus plus containerization using Docker Git based workflows and AI assisted capabilities to build the next generation of Payment Services Transaction Platforms Real Time Payments and Buy Now Pay Later technology
• Opportunities to make a difference on a global or local scale through mentorship collaboration and continued learning

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates foundational knowledge of backend software engineering and asks thoughtful questions about project and system requirements
• Reviews and asks questions about solution strategies that improve backend design scalability reliability and maintainability
• Applies standard engineering processes using C plus plus and backend programming languages to write test and debug code that fulfills system and technical requirements under close guidance
• Works under guidance to support the piloting of new backend and AI enabled technology capabilities including automation intelligent monitoring or decision support features
• Identifies documents and escalates defects or performance issues that threaten service stability security or availability

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Software Engineering or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience

Zero to two years of relevant software engineering experience including internships co ops or academic projects

Foundational knowledge of backend software development principles including data structures algorithms and object oriented programming

Experience programming in C plus plus or a comparable systems level language

Familiarity with Linux based development environments

Experience designing building and testing backend services or distributed systems

Knowledge of concurrency multithreading and performance optimization concepts

Hands on exposure to Docker and container based development

Experience using Git in collaborative development environments including code reviews and pull requests

Familiarity with API based service communication such as REST or RPC

Exposure to AI enabled systems such as consuming machine learning model outputs anomaly detection or intelligent automation

Experience using AI assisted development tools for code generation testing or debugging

Understanding of CI CD pipelines build automation and deployment workflows

Familiarity with monitoring logging and observability tools for backend systems

Strong analytical problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Ability to collaborate effectively with Product Quality Engineering Dev

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for this position is 88,000.00 to 136,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
