We are looking for Versatile, curious, and energetic Software Engineers who embrace solving complex challenges on a global scale. As a Visa Software Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team inventing, designing, building, and testing software products that reach a truly global customer base. While building components of powerful payment technology, you will get to see your efforts shaping the digital future of monetary transactions.

The Responsibilities:

• Proven experience leading teams that have delivered high‑quality large‑scale enterprise‑class applications.
• Demonstrates relevant technical working knowledge to understand requirements.
• You are a Java expert, and you have experience with REST APIs, JSON, and exposure to container‑based technologies.
• Working experience in React and Vertx is a plus.
• Working experience with Kafka, Open Search/Elasticsearch is a must.
• Design, implement, and optimize complex search applications using Open Search or Elasticsearch, including index design, query DSL, aggregations, synonyms, analyzers, and relevance tuning.
• Develop scalable ingestion frameworks that handle high‑throughput, real‑time search indexing.
• Own search performance end‑to‑end: latency improvements, shard planning, cluster optimization, caching strategies, and load testing.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate business search needs into technical solutions (e.g., relevance scoring, ranking models, semantic search).
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex search issues involving distributed systems, cluster health, shards, replication, and indexing failures.
• Implement observability for search systems: monitoring, alerting, dashboards, query profiling, and cluster metrics.
• Should have very good understanding in GenAI technology and built product using any LLM.
• Hands‑on experience with database technologies like MSSQL and Oracle.
• You have strong experience with Agile development incorporating Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, utilizing technologies such as GIT, Maven, Jenkins, Chef, Sonar, JUnit.
• Ensure proper metrics instrumentation in software components to help facilitate real‑time and remote troubleshooting/performance monitoring.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux and working in a shell environment. Understand and own component security analysis, including code and data flow review.
• Collaborate with security team to implement and verify secure coding techniques.
• Curiosity and creativity to understand customer requirements and processes and propose improvements.
• Ability to see and understand the big picture while staying focused on immediate goals.
• Strong work ethic to focus on our goals.
• Experience with Test‑Driven Development methodology.
• Proven experience as a technical leader with ability to understand requirements and independently architect, design, and build the solution.
• Passion for working with people and mentoring junior engineers.
• As an end‑to‑end champion for your products, strong debugging and Unix skills to help support Operations teams.
• Ability to write clean, coherent code following established coding guidelines.
• Strong interpersonal and effective communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Highly driven, resourceful, and results‑oriented.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or with an Advanced degree.
• Java expert with experience in REST APIs, JSON, and container‑based technologies.
• Working experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch/Open Search, and Spark.
• Hands‑on expertise with Open Search or Elasticsearch, including:
• Indexing strategies and schema design
• Query DSL, aggregations, full‑text search, analyzers, custom tokenization
• Cluster configuration, scaling, shard allocation, and performance tuning
• Experience with Open Search or Elasticsearch, or Lucene‑level customization.
• Experience managing multi‑node Open Search/Elastic clusters, optimizing relevancy, and resolving complex cluster issues.
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems concepts: replication, fault tolerance, data partitioning, consistency models.
• Strong understanding of GenAI technologies and experience building a product using any LLM.
• Hands‑on experience with databases such as MSSQL and Oracle.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, using tools such as GIT, Maven, Jenkins, Chef, Sonar, JUnit.
• Experience with Agile and Test‑Driven Development methodology.
